A large portion of the clientele suffered significant trauma and were diagnosed with PTSD or Acute Stress Disorder. Other diagnostic presentations included, Depression and Anxiety related disorders. Additionally, comprehensive psychodiagnostic assessments were completed for children, adolescents and adults receiving services from agencies contracted by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, administrative
and clinical supervision was provided to the clinical and case management staff in the foster care mental health program. Clinical supervision was provided in both individual and group settings. Agency wide in-service was provided on a number of clinically related topics. Administrative duties included generating referral sources and establishing program recognition in the community, developing and implementing staff procedures, monitoring staff productivity and adherence to agency rules and consulting with other community based organizations. Clinical Supervision duties included helping clinical staff understand psychopathology and implement effective intervention, reviewing case notes and preparing case files for program audits. Clinical services were provided in the form of psychotherapy to children and adolescents in foster care and their families. Additional services included parenting instruction to foster parents, and conducting support groups for foster parents and group-home providers.

Under the supervision of an LCSW, In home Outreach Counselors assess psycho-
social function of high risk families identified by the Los Angeles Department of
Children Services and Los Angeles Department of Probation. Responsibilities included working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to insure the safety of children in “high risk” homes and increase the quality of life and reducing risk factors for families being serviced. Risk factors included substance abuse, domestic violence, physical abuse, general neglect and child delinquency.
Services were provided to children, adolescents and adults. Services included;
parenting instruction, counseling, case management and crisis intervention.

Individual psychotherapy was provided to adolescents and adults attending the college. Clinical presentations included; Depression, Generalized Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, relationship problems and adjustment disorders.
Suicide assessments were conducted and on occasion students were referred to psychiatrists and/or inpatient facilities for psychotrophic medication consults, suicidal ideation or psychotic processing. Additionally, consultation with various faculty members about students with troublesome behavior was required. Other duties included providing workshops in the student housing facility. Workshops provided include: “Violence in Relationships”, “Managing Conflict with
Roommates and Friends”, and “The Benefits of Psychotherapy”.

Individual and group psychotherapy was provided to adults receiving services in a drug treatment facility and/or living in a domestic violence shelter. Other services included parenting instruction, psycho-social needs assessment and case
management. Additionally, comprehensive psychological evaluations and custody recommendations for family court were completed under the supervision of and in concert with a licensed psychologist. In addition to clinical services provided, various community organizations received recommendations for program development and comprehensive program evaluations.
