2015 Awards & Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

Welcome to the Florida Emergency Nurses Association State Council Awards and Scholarship program. The mission of FENA is to provide educational awards and scholarships in the discipline of emergency nursing. FENA recognizes the importance of continuing education for the nursing profession and the individual practitioner. You can locate a copy of the applications at www.floridaena.org, click on the Scholarships/Awards tab and search under scholarships.

Eligibility requirements for Academic scholarships:

 Applicants must be an ENA member and have been a member for at least twelve (12) months prior to applying.

 Licensed to practice as a registered nurse or advanced practice nurse in the state of Florida.  Applicants must be attending a NLN, CCNE or AACN accredited school and must provide

verification of the schools current accreditation. Printed copies of the course catalog or website pages listing the schools accreditation is acceptable.

 A minimum of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) is required for consideration.

 Submit a letter from your chapter or FENA president to support active in ENA at the local, state, and /or national level defined but not limited to: attendance at 50% local/state meetings, committee chairperson/co-chair, TNCC/ENPC/other ENA course instructor, ENCARE provider, etc.

Scholarships Category:

Categories: Non-RN, undergraduate (RN to BSN), graduate/master and doctoral. Number of Awards: Three (3) annually

Amount of Award: $ 1, 000 dollars to each applicant.

Application Guidelines:

 Complete the application form. Handwritten applications are not accepted.  Application must be e-mailed. Faxed application is not acceptable.

 Application submitted electronically must include scanned copies of the required documents: signed application, ENA membership card, transcripts or letter of acceptance, reference/chapter letters, etc. Reference/chapter letters does not need to be submitted in a sealed envelope.

 All blanks must be filled in. Attaching a document in place of filling in blanks is not acceptable.  All paperwork must be turned in together.

 Applicants will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of application and documents within one (1) week.

 Applicants that do not receive an e mail of confirmation within one week (not including weekends and/or holidays) must contact the chairperson to assure application has been received.

Applications not meeting all of the above requirements will be ineligible for review. Reviewed 2015: Academic scholarship

Application Review Process:Applications will be reviewed by the FENA Awards and Scholarships committee, who are all members of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and Florida Emergency Nurses Association (FENA). Including the total points awarded for each section, applicants may earn up to a 100 points; an overall score of 80 or more is necessary to be considered. The criteria for determining awards are as follows:

 A maximum of 40 points can be awarded to the applicant’s Statement of Professional/Educational goals for clarity and content. This statement is limited to one page and must include goals directly related to emergency nursing.

 A maximum of 30 points will be given for the quality of reference letters submitted with your application.

 A maximum of 20 points can be awarded to the applicant’s professional association involvement. Applicant must be a member of ENA to apply. Please note, membership is a minimal requirement; the review team will be looking for evidence of active involvement such as work on committees, meeting attendance, teaching in ENA courses-sponsored events, delegate, attending conferences, etc.  A maximum of 10 points will be given for the presentation of the application. Including in this area

are the form of the application; its readability; coherence between sections; consistency between goal statement and professional activity; and the spelling, syntax and grammar of all narrative portions of the application.

All applications & documents will be discarded after the drawing. Applications and all accompanying material become the property of FENA and will not be returned. It is recommended that you keep copies of application documents.

It is highly recommended that the second letter comes from either your ENA National State Council or Local Chapter officers to validate ENA participation. III. SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Fall FENA State Council meeting and posted on FENA website. Recipients will be contacted via e-mail.
