Islamic Relief is an international relief and development agency striving to alleviate poverty and suffering around the world regardless of colour, race or religion. Established in 1984 in response to the widespread famine in Africa, Islamic Relief has grown to be a key, well known and respected aid agency in disaster relief and the ongoing development of people in over 25 countries. It specialises in Education & Training, Health and Nutrition, Water & Sanitation, Income Generation, Orphans’ Support, Emergency Relief and Disaster Preparedness. Islamic Relief is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and is an implementing partner for DFID, ECHO, the World Food Programme and UNHCR.

PURPOSE OF DIVISION (IRUK)

Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) that is part of Islamic Relief Worldwide. IRUK’s focus is strengthening effective funding, mobilising for change through advocacy and awareness-raising, and strengthening programme development and delivery. IRUK works with various partners and institutions, from governments, non-governmental organisations and local authorities to grassroots communities.

PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT (FUNDRAISING DEPARTMENT):

To develop and implement strategies to increase the funding income of Islamic Relief through a range of fundraising initiatives and through acquisition and retention supporters.

JOB PURPOSE:

As part of the Community Fundraising and Volunteering (CFV) team, the Events and Challenges Coordinator is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of the events and challenges strategy plan. The Events and Challenges Coordinator plays a key role in developing & delivering agreed events and challenges in support of the fundraising strategy whilst maintaining the highest level of customer service to ensure that the participants have the best experience possible in a cost effective manner.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internally

 Work closely with the CFV team, to ensure the effective planning & delivery of the events and challenges programme.

 Work closely with the CFV team to develop and promote support of events and to maximise the supporter journey.

 Keep the various communication teams informed of upcoming activity to maximise PR and marketing opportunities.

 Work closely with procurement department.

Externally

 Work closely and build relationships with service provider in order to provide a high level of customer service for IR and IR supporters.

 Identify and build relationship with service providers of events and challenges (such as catering and venues) and develop an effective database.

 Work closely with Volunteer Coordinator and CFV officers (& their volunteers) in order to maximise support with events.

 Manage agency contracts and external consultants in liaison with procurement and HR.

SCOPE AND AUTHORITY

Scope of the Role:

 Reporting to the National Community Fundraising and Volunteering Manager.

 Events in the context of this JD include: o National Tours

o Major FR activities

o National and international Challenge Events o Flagship Events

o Charity Week

o Key Third party events/ tours o Gala Events

o Key Selected PR and Media Events (as agreed).

Responsibility for Resources:

IR resources for events and challenges (e.g. Audio Visual equipments, Banners, etc.).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The job holder is accountable for fulfilling his or her roles and responsibilities in line with Islamic values and principles of fairness, humanity, honesty, respect and fair treatment of his/her colleagues and staff. The following are the main responsibilities that the role holder will be accountable for:

Financial

Ensure all payment and collection processes are in place for participants in

accordance with IR financial policies.

Deliver your designated Events income budget within agreed expenditure budget

to an acceptable fundraising cost ratio.

To ensure compliance with the Institute of Fundraising code of practice.

Marketing

Develop an overall marketing strategy for agreed events (in liaison with the

Communications Department).

To work closely with the communications/digital teams to encourage participation,

maximise publicity and raise the profile of the organisation.

Cross-organisational working

Contribute to specialist organisation wide projects as requested.

Liaise closely with Communications/Digital team regarding PR activities to

maximise publicity.

Work with the CFV Officers and their Volunteer teams to help with events.

General

To be flexible with regard to working hours where requested (evening and

weekend work will be necessary).

To be an effective team member.

Attend appropriate industry events keeping up to date with developments in the

events fundraising arena.

To maintain confidentiality at all times regarding participant information.

To attend training as required.

To comply with Health and Safety policy.

To show commitment to the goals and values of Islamic Relief.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and empathy with the Islamic values and principles as well as commitment to IRW’s vision and mission.

Essential experience

 Experience of fundraising through organising and delivering events & challenges.

 Experience of the development, delivery and monitoring and evaluation of annual plans and budgets.

 Experience of delivering exceptional donor/customer care.

 Experience of producing a range of effective communications.

Essential knowledge

 Understanding of the different types of fundraising events and challenges.

 Good understanding of charity law, policy and regulatory environment within which charities operate.

 Understanding and experience of health & safety regulation and risk assessment in organising events and challenges.

Essential skills

 Natural communicator with the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a diverse range of individuals who may be supporters, participants, donors or volunteers.

 Proven experience of project management and organising skills to a high level.

 Strong time management/prioritising skills.

 Accuracy and attention to detail.

 Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.

 Demonstrable diplomacy and ability to work in confidence.

 Good numerical skills.

 Excellent administrative skills.

 Demonstrable creativity.

 Competent user of Raisers’ Edge or other relationship management database.

 Demonstrable time management skills and ability to work to multiple deadlines.

Essential Circumstances

 Full UK driving licence and be willing to travel around the UK

 Able to work flexible hours (including unsocial hours and weekends).

Desirable selection criteria

 Experience of e technology.

 Membership of Institute of Fundraising.

 Experience of working with the media.

 Experience of using audio/visual equipments

 Access to own vehicle (car).
