1. Introduction
Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) is a feature by which the Antenna is controlled remotely through the OMC. Either internal or external Remote Control Unit (RCU) is used in order to adjust the electrical tilt of the antenna. There is a RCU for each single band with unique serial number usually used to differentiate between different bands. Usually different RCUs of one sector are connected in a daisy chain as shown in the below diagram.

The latest Jaybeam antennas have internal RET motors with mechanical override.
In order to manually adjust the E-tilt value, remove the ruler cap and rotate the knob.
If the cap is removed, an alarm would appear to the OMC indicating RET functionality is disabled.
There are male and female AISG ports and connecting RET cable to any of them should work.

P65-18-XDHH-R
The new Powerwave antenna has internal RET that consists of three replaceable internal RCUs.
The RCUs are connected to each other in a daisy chain scenario.
The RCUs are pre-commissioned and no need to download configuration files
Mechanical override is available by rotating the black knob by using a screw in order to manually adjust the E-tilt and pulling out the ruler to measure the E-tilt.
There are male and female AISG ports and connecting RET cable to any of them should work.

PW7785
The Powerwave antenna (PW7785) has an
external RET Motor as shown above.
The motor has three slots to fit the 3 rulers of
electrical tilt.
The motor has an AISG port that controls the 3
electrical tilts (GSM, DCS, 3G) of the antenna.
The RET is not pre-commissioned and we
need to run the configuration file (latest version) to operate the motor through OMC.
In order to install the RET motor; the ruler
lock has to removed.

P65-18-XXCHH_N_VF
The Antenna used in sharing with ET or VF uses the same motor as PW7785.
Since it is a 12-Port Antenna, Each half of the antenna has a Motor to control it
(The antenna is technically like 2 modules of Pw7785 antennas next to each
other).
Module A belong to have of the Antenna, And Module B belong to the 2
ndHalf
The Configuration file need to be run after the Motor is installed to configure the
used module of the antenna shared.

3. Connectivity
Directly to the R R U:
This scenario is used where Huawei RRU is Located near the antenna. One port of the RET cable is connected to the RRU (DB9 connector) and the other is connected to the antenna RCU. The below AISG cable type is used:
Using TMA:
This scenario is used where TMA exists on the feeders. One port of the RET cable is connected to the TMA and the other is connected to the antenna RCU. The below AISG cable type is used:

Using B ias Tee:
This scenario is used where TMA does not exist on the feeders and for all NSN sites as the RRH has no AISG port. One port is connected to the Bias Tee and the other is connected to the antenna RCU. The Bias Tee has to be connected on the main feeder (Tx/Rx). The below AISG cable type is used:
RET Handbook
4. Supporting Devices
Bias Tee
Bias Tee / CILOC is a Current Injector Layer One Converter.
Bias Tee is a DC blocker in one direction; in order to extract AISG signals and inject it on the AISG cable.
RET Handbook
TMA / MHA
Tower Mounted Amplifier (TMA) / Mast Head Amplifier (MHA) is a Low-noise amplifier that is placed near the antenna in order to compensate the feeder losses.
TMA can be also used in extracting DC signal and delivering it to the Antenna for RET.
TMA is connected at the feeder ends as shown in the below figure:

MDDU (for sharing)
12-port Antenna JW5980000G comes with MDCU for RET control. MDCU has Male & Female ports; each one can control all six RCUs inside the antenna.
While using this antenna for sharing, MDCU has to be replaced with MDDU. MDDU has two Male ports; each one can control only three RCUs inside the antenna.

5. OMC Configuration Steps
1. Open ALD power switch: There must be withdrawn current (40 —70 mA) in order to be able to scan the ALD.
2. Scan ALD: RCU’s serial numbers must appear if connectivity is OK.
3. Download Configuration files: for non-pre-commissioned antennas only. 4. Add RET
5. Calibrate RET: All RCUs have to be calibrated; otherwise Motor fault alarm will be raised. In order to be able to calibrate, manual E-tilt has to be adjusted to any value within the tilt range (each band has its own range depending on the supplier).
RET Handbook
6. RET Alarm Handling
1. Faulty RET will be reported by NOC providing the antenna type.
2. The below troubleshooting will be done according to the antenna type :
3. In case the problem was not solved and needs antenna replacement, Production team will replace the faulty antenna after Radio team approval.
Powerwave
a. If ALD Maintenance link failure alarm exists, Replace RET cable
b. If actuator is jammed, Motor has to be greased
c. If problem still exists, Replace motor and reconfigure the RET
Jaybeam
a. If ALD Maintenance link failure alarm exists, Replace RET cable b. If motor is temporarily stalled, check
the RET caps (change it if needed) c. If motor is permanently stalled,

7. Newly Tested Solutions:
Splitting Sectors:
1. Installation:
RET motors of all sectors should be connected to their RRUs (except the splitting sector), then all these sectors have to be configured before connecting the splitting sector.
Splitting sector antenna should be connected with an AISG cable to the nearest antenna as shown in the below photos.
2. Configuration:
At first only configured sectors serial no’s will appear on the OMC, then after connecting the splitting
RET Handbook
After configuring the splitting sector, it should be renamed to give an indication about its sector number
(as shown in the below snapshot for S4 splitting). Please note that both S1 & S4 wo uld have the same subrack no. as both have their RET connectivity through RRU 80 (used for S1).

Installing 8230.4 Motor on PW7755:
PW7755 is a dual-band antenna with only two rulers (one for GSM & the other for 3G) while the 8230.4
motor has three internal motors.
To solve this conflict the configuration files of the 8 230.4 motor between DCS & GSM have to be swapped
as shown in the above figure.

Huawei Antenna
(ATR4517F1)
Huawei antenna has three external motors; in order to
install RET motors; Tilt caps & locks have to be
removed. In order to manually adjust tilts, rotate the
black knob shown in the below figure.
Each motor has a colored label indicating the
ruler it should be attached to. The below figure
shows how motors should be installed (Ex.:
Red motor attached to Red tilt ruler). Motors
should be installed by hand and without using
any special tools.
