Intermec Global Advanced Services

Planning and facilitating a new deployment or refresh of automatic identification

and data capture (AIDC) technology can be a daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be.

Intermec’s industry-leading expertise, coupled with its comprehensive suite of Advanced

Services, takes the complexity out of technology integration projects while safeguarding

your organization’s operational effectiveness – and revenue – in the process.

Intermec Global Advanced Services are designed to ensure fast, easy, reliable, wireless

networked AIDC technology deployments. Before, during and after implementation of

your WLAN, WWAN, RFID or traditional barcode network solution, Intermec AIDC experts

assist at every step of a project life cycle – from initial business assessment to the

installation and optimization of network infrastructure and devices in your organization’s

warehouse, industrial plant, campus environment or fast-moving field fleet.

Unlike other information network experts and wireless system integrators, Intermec

understands AIDC technology and how to deploy it, even in the real world of a harsh industrial

environment. Intermec works from the AIDC device technology up, so you achieve fully

optimized, integrated system performance, minimizing infrastructure costs without sacrificing

wireless coverage, responsiveness or reliability. So whether you’re deploying a new system,

extending existing infrastructure or refreshing supply chain and mobile operations with

up-to-date imaging, data capture and printer technology, Intermec Global Advanced Services ensures

AIDC projects get rolled out on-time, on budget and with limited business disruptions.

Intermec AIDC experts are routinely deployed all over the world – working with our business

partners and local customers to assure AIDC implementations provide proper network security,

scalability and interoperability, as well as compatibility with legacy equipment and systems.

For easy deployment and immediate productivity in the real world of rugged mobile

ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING SERVICES

With the widest range of enterprise and business applications experience in the industry, Intermec will assess and optimize the performance of networked AIDC systems inside the warehouse, across the campus and out in the field. Intermec will match AIDC technology to your business goals, application environment and operating processes. Intermec experts will assess AIDC technology alternatives, specify physical installation requirements, evaluate network infrastructure and operating processes and uncover opportunities to extend and optimize AIDC technology. In-Premise Wireless Site Assessment

Wireless network performance and requirements can change over time with the evolution of your organization’s operations, increases in number of users, bandwidth requirements for advanced applications or physical changes in RF conditions. For existing local area networks, Intermec will evaluate performance requirements and then re-evaluate existing access point locations and configuration, including network security, and deliver recommendations for optimum wireless performance. A site assessment may be conducted to isolate unknown or unintended sources of wireless degradation, or as a periodic health check to confirm that an organization’s network performance, security and compliance requirements are being met.

Technology Feasibility & Proof of Concept

Intermec will evaluate your organization’s operating environment and business strategy, as well as potential technology solutions. We will identify implementation requirements, including physical installation of devices, network architecture and needed bandwidth. If you are in an early stage of considering AIDC, Intermec’s feasibility and proof of concept expertise can pre-qualify your organization’s AIDC business plan in as little as one day—a cost effective way to validate the business case, establish the scope and success criteria—before investing in a comprehensive development project.

Testing and Trials

When your AIDC system includes software, hardware and wireless network elements from multiple vendors, pilot testing by Intermec will verify all elements operate together as a system before in-premise installation or field deployment. Enabled by extensive AIDC network and device emulation capability, Intermec assures off-the-shelf components and special customizations all perform together to your specification before go-live so your organization will come online with confidence.

SITE SURVEY AND CERTIFICATION SERVICES

A warehouse is not an office, but it does need to function as one. With high ceilings, concrete floors, metal racks and bay doors, changing contents and moving equipment, industrial spaces pose a challenging, even hostile, RF environment for wireless networks. Simply extending an office wireless network configuration into a warehouse is not a practical solution—and can prove a costly mistake. Multi-path signal propagation and interference, improperly configured RF sensitivity and power, and dynamically-changing RF absorption characteristics in a warehouse can lead to intermittent, unreliable wireless coverage, which results in unproductive and frustrated workers and additional infrastructure expenses. Intermec brings expertise in mobile wireless antenna configuration, along with the practical experience of over 5000 rugged industrial warehouse network deployments. Recognizing this unique combination of antenna expertise and practical experience, Cisco named Intermec its first-ever certified Solutions Technology Integration Partner. With Intermec’s unique expertise in harsh industrial wireless environments, we can assure your network delivers the same reliable signal strength, coverage, connectivity and scalability within your warehouse, plant, campus or field environment as you would expect inside an office. In-Premise WLAN Design and Deployment

Coupling special site survey software and analysis techniques with expert knowledge of AIDC 802.11a/b/g/n, mesh and Bluetooth applications in indoor, outdoor and harsh industrial environments, Intermec determines how many access points and antennas are needed, where to locate them, and how to configure them with Intermec handheld computers, data capture devices and printers— matching device types, channels, sensitivity, transmit power, range and network coverage—in an optimized wireless AIDC system.

INSTALLATION SERVICES

A precision installation “locks down” the recommendations of a wireless site survey to realize the full potential of wireless AIDC from your mobile operations and equipment.

In multi-story, multi-building, multi-campus environments such as hospitals, industrial production facilities, retail and office complexes, freight-handling facilities and distribution centers, precision installation is an Intermec core competency. Unlike installers who merely “pull cable,” Intermec knows AIDC applications, and can assure the installation and supporting AIDC devices are tuned together. This delivers performance-matched efficiency, so your organization can go to work in a new installation without waiting for follow-up system configuration, monitoring or troubleshooting. And it means you minimize infrastructure costs without sacrificing coverage, responsiveness or reliability. Intermec in-vehicle installations can integrate fixed-mount data collection devices into your fleet of forklifts or trucks, in all of your operating locations simultaneously. That means you can bring an entire fleet online at one time, without staggering installations or disrupting operations.

From the largest truck fleet cab installation project to the most exacting RFID implementation, precision installation by Intermec means minimum total time for your AIDC roll-out and the quickest possible return on investment. In-Premise WLAN, RFID and Forklift Installations

Intermec ensures that AIDC technology is installed correctly. Placement of fixed-mount computers, imagers, RFID readers and antennas in your physical plant, on forklifts, and in material handlers is performed with precision. And unlike other installers, we can work from the AIDC device up—your wireless environment and devices will be optimized as a system, by the people who know them best.

Field Mobile WWAN, RFID and Truck Installations Fixed-mount data collection devices, expertly integrated into truck and delivery van cabs, promote driver safety and productivity. Installation by Intermec reflects careful attention to detail and experience earned from thousands of installations in supply chain and field operations like yours.
