  National Young Arts Foundation awards cash awards/ college scholarships to young artists‐ actors, artist,  dancer, filmmaker, designer, musician, photographer, singer songwriter or writer age 15 to 18. Apply online  at youngarts.org/apply2015  .  Deadline October 17, 2014.   Wendy’s High School Heisman Award honors high school students who excel in academics, athletics, and  community involvement.  To be eligible a student must have maintained at least a “B” grade point average  and  participated  in  one  of  the  27  sports  officially  sanctioned  by  the  National  Federation  of  State  High  School Associations, and demonstrated active involvement in his or her community.  Now through October  3, 2014, class of 2015 graduating seniors can apply at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com .  (Number 1)   

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognizes the top high school youth volunteer in each state.  Information  and applications available on‐line at http://spirit.prudential.com .  Students should complete  their  online  applications  by  Tuesday,  November  4.    Nominee(s)  must  be  certified  by  their  school  by  Tuesday, November 11.      The Horatio Alger Association Scholarship provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation  who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity.   Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation in spring/summer of 2015, commitment to pursue  and complete a bachelor’s degree and US citizenship.  Students may apply online through October 25, 2014  at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships  Information in guidance. (Number 102) 

 

Park Scholar Award from Ithaca College for studying at the Roy. H. Park School of Communications. Award  covers the full cost of attendance (tuition, room, and board) per year including stipends for living expenses,  books and a computer purchase.  Application/information/deadlines in guidance.

The  Pride  Center  Youth  Scholarships  for  lesbian,  gay,  bisexual,  trans*,  queer/questioning  and  allied  high  school students who exemplify leadership, academic achievement and commitment to LGBT equality and  are entering their freshmen year of college or an accredited school program in the fall of 2015.  Application  online  www.capitalpridecenter.org . Deadline to Pride Center is Friday, May 1, 2015. (Number 32)  

The  Boston  University  Trustee  Scholarship  Competition  where  Scholars  are  selected  from  high  schools  around  the  world,  are  typically  in  the  top  ten  percent  of  their  class  and  are  leaders  in  their  schools  and  communities.  Nomination, essay and application must be submitted to the Program by December 1, 2014.  Applications and nomination materials are available online www.bu.edu/admissions/trustee Information in  guidance. (Number  80)

The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest. Students are asked to write an original and creative essay of 1,000 words or less that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage. Describe and analyze an act of political courage by a United States elected official that took place during or after 1956. Include an analysis of the obstacles, risks, and consequences associated with the act. The  Timothy  Charron  Memorial  Scholarship  for  a  senior  who  is  the  son,  stepson,  daughter  or  stepdaughter  of  a  Chatham  Fire  Department  Firefighter  or  Ladies  Auxiliary  member.    Applications  in  guidance.  Deadline to guidance is April 1, 2015. (Number 28)

Fairbank  Family  Scholarship  Fund  will  award  scholarships  to  two  or  four‐year  college  bound  and/or  vocational  training‐bound  graduating  seniors  who  are  dependents  of  employees  of  Jiminy  Peak  or  Centerplate employees working at Jiminy Peak. Deadline to Foundation is April 1, 2015.  Apply online at

Ronald  B.  Czajkowski,  Jr.  Memorial  Scholarship  awarded  to  a  graduating  member  of  the  football  team  who brings a crucial, intangible value to the team and his teammates.  Applicants to answer question in  their  own  words  “Why  do  you  play  football?”  Applications  in  guidance.    Deadline  to  guidance  is  May  1,  2015. (Number 112) 

CEN  Manufacturing  2015  Scholarship  is  awarded  to  encourage  students  to  consider  careers  in  manufacturing.  For high school seniors graduating in 2015 and accepted at an accredited two or four year  college,  university  or  trade  school  and  planning  to  enroll  in  a  major  which  can  lead  to  qualifying  for  a  position  with  a  manufacturer.    Applications  in  guidance  or  online  at www.cenmfg.org    Deadline  to  Organization is March 31, 2015.  (Number 7)  

The “Ned Carter Scholarship” offered by the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York to NYS  High  School  Seniors  graduating  in  June  of  2015.    Student  MUST  be  related  to  or  be  a  Firefighter  in  an  affiliated  member  organization  of  the  Association  of  Fire  Districts  of  NYS  and  MUST  reside  in  NYS.   Applicant should be pursuing a post‐secondary career in the community service‐related areas of endeavor  at  a  2  or  4  year  college.    Applications  in  guidance  or  online  at www.firedistnys.com  or  in  guidance.   Applications  MUST  be  postmarked  by  Saturday,  March  7,  2015,  and  mailed  to  AFDSNY  Scholarship  Committee.  (Number 16) 

Sons  of  the  American  Revolution  “George  &  Stella  Knight  Essay  Contest”  is  for sophomores,  juniors or  seniors  –  the  contest  is  conducted  in  three  phases:  local,  state  and  National.    Our  National,  yet  local  Society, “seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, the  value  of  American  citizenship,  and  the  unifying  force  of  ‘e  pluribus  unum’.”    Deadline  for  valid  entry:  Monday,  December  22,  2014.  Applications  and  information  available  in  guidance  or  online  at  www.SAR.org .  (Number 1B)  

2014‐2015  Civics  Poster  /  Essay  Contest  for  11th  or  12th  grade  students.    Participants  may  submit  one  poster  and  or  one  essay.    Deadline  to  Guidance  is  February  2,  2015.    Information  and  applications  in  guidance.  (Number 113) 

 The  Giddings  Foundation  Scholarship  can  represent  a  generous  contribution  to  a  deserving  student’s  college  financial  obligation.    They  are  granted  in  recognition  of  a  graduating  senior’s  overall  personal  achievement  with  emphasis  on  leadership,  community  service  and  high  academic  standing.    Eligibility:  graduating seniors with a GPA of 85 or above.  Deadline to Guidance is February 13, 2015. (Number 19)   Excellence  in  Nursing  Awards  Essay  Scholarship  from  Hudson  Valley  Magazine  awards  a  $1500  scholarship to a motivated senior who plans to pursue a career in nursing.  Must be a high school senior  and send an essay explaining why you want to be a nurse.  Information in guidance.  Application deadline:   Applications must be postmarked by February 13, 2015.  (Number 97) 

 Big Mind Learning Scholarship for high school juniors and seniors. Students will be evaluated purely on  the  merit  of  their  personal  essays  in  response  to  a  writing  prompt.  The  scholarship  will  honor  students  who speak their minds and examine their personal lives in clear, vivid writing.  Application form, guidelines  and  criteria  available  on  the  website www.bigmindlearning.com    .    Submission  Deadline  to  Big  Mind  Learning is April 1, 2015. (Number 35) 

   

 SEFCU  SCHOLARSHIPS  for  a  high  school  senior  who  is  the  primary  member  on  a  SEFCU  account.  Applicants will be judged on academic performance, extracurricular, community and volunteer activities,  and  the  quality  and  content  of  a  written  essay.  Please  e‐mail [email protected]  for  the  following  scholarship application packets: 

1. SEFCU Smart Sense Scholarship ($1,000) is open to all college‐bound high school seniors who  are SEFCU members.     Deadline to SEFCU is January 31, 2015. (Number 18) 

2. SEFCU John Ilacqua Memorial Scholarship ($2,500) is available to one high school senior who  is a SEFCU member and planning to attend Siena College.  The one‐time scholarship is given to  a  student  with  a  strong  academic  record  who  has  demonstrated  a  commitment  to  his/her  community through volunteerism.  Deadline to SEFCU is January 31, 2015.  (Number 18) 

3. Credit  Union  Association  of  New  York  (CUANY)  Scholarships  ($500  and  $1,000)  will  be  awarded to high school seniors. (Number 18) 

 

B’nai  B’rith  Capital  Area  Holocaust  Essay  Contest  is  free  and  open  to  high  school  and  middle  school  students in the 12 county Capital area of NY.   Information in guidance or visit www.bbhec.org   Deadline  to organization must be emailed or postmarked by April 16, 2015. (Number 50)  Marion Heath Payn Scholarship Program is administered by the Board of Education of Chatham Central  School District from funds received from the estate of Marion Heath Payn.  The income from these funds  is used to provide scholarships to worthy and needy graduates of Chatham High School.  Applications in  guidance; deadline is April 30, 2015. (Number 36)  Berkshire Bank Scholarships  are offered to HS Seniors with a record of community service who attend a  high school in a town served by Berkshire Bank. The Berkshire Bank Foundation will award up to 30 local  High School Seniors a $1,500 scholarship.  Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, a gross family annual income  under  $75,000,  and  plan  to  attend  a  2  or  4  year  college  or  technical  school.    Information  available  in  guidance  or  visit www.berkshirebank.com/scholarships.  Deadline  to  Berkshire  Bank  Foundation:  March  25, 2015 by 4:00 pm. (Number 106)         

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is for seniors who plan to enroll full time at a four‐year college or  university  and  who  plan  to  major  in  a  field  of  study  that  focuses  on  engineering,  technology,  design  or  business, with an interest in the automotive industry. Info in guidance or visit website for program details  and the online application:  www.buickachievers.com  Deadline: February 27, 2015. (Number 39) 

 

Ronald  McDonald  Scholarship  for  high  school  seniors.    Information  available  in  guidance  or  at  www.rmhcnytristate.org/ .  Deadline for application is January 20, 2015. 

 

Delta  Kappa  Gamma  Alpha  Nu  Chapter  Grant‐in‐Aid  Scholarship  is  awarded  to  a  female  high  school  senior  graduating  in  June  2015  and  who  intends  to  prepare  for  a  career  in  the  teaching  profession.   Applications  and  criteria  available  in  guidance.    Deadline  to  guidance  is  Friday,  February  24,  2015.  (Number 26) 

Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship – Upper Hudson Association ‐ champions outstanding academic achievement  and a liberal education, awarding scholarships to two 2015 high school graduates from the region planning  to enter college in the fall of 2015.  Applicants must have at least a 90% GPA and be in the top 10% of their  class.  Applications in guidance; deadline to guidance is Wednesday, March 4, 2015. (Number 37) 

The Zonta Club’s Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award for outstanding community service is awarded to a  Junior  or  a  Senior.    Academic  achievement  is  not  a  factor  in  selecting  a  winner.    Information  and  applications in guidance.  Deadline to guidance is Monday, March 2, 2015. (Number 45) 

Rider Mills Historical Association‐F. Fowler Root Scholarship is offered to interested students from both  the Chatham Central and the New Lebanon School Districts who have shown “academic achievement and  good character and has participated in school activities”.   Applications available in guidance; deadline to  guidance is April 27, 2015. (Number 47) 

Spencertown  Fire  Company  Fred  Oleynek  Memorial  Scholarship  to  a  graduating  senior  who  A)  has  resided at least 2 years in the area serviced by the Spencertown Fire Co. or B) lives within the Austerlitz  Fire District and has a parent who is a member in good standing of the Spencertown Fire Co. and c) plans  to  continue  their  education  at  an  institution  of  higher  learning.    Applications  in  guidance;  deadline  to  guidance is April 17, 2015. (Number 41)  The Linnea Bell Music Scholarships are given to two (2) students who are residents of the Chatham School  District.  Linnea Bell, a junior at Chatham High School, was a young woman with ambitions to become a  musician/DJ.   Preference is given to students who are entering their first year of a two or four year college  with a goal of pursuing a career in music. These goals could be in singing and performing, as well as in the  professional industry, i.e. recording studio, disc jockey, sound engineer, or musical theater.  Applications in  guidance.  Deadline to guidance is April 17, 2015.  ( Number 71) 

Ghent  VFW  #5933  Auxiliary  Scholarship  is  awarded  to  a  child,  grandchild,  niece  or  nephew  who  is  a  graduating student and also related to a Veteran of Foreign Wars.  Deadline is April 30, 2015. (Number 77)  Meghan Kraham Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female senior (or more) who are  committed  to  pursuing  a  post‐secondary  education.    The  recipients  shall  be  students  who,  like  Meghan  Kraham, engaged in community service, strong and positive school spirit through extra‐curricular school  activities,  and  conducted  themselves  with  a  high  moral  code  and  serve  as  a  good  role  model  for  other  students.  Application in guidance; deadline to guidance is MAY 1, 2015. (Number 34) 

Simon Youth Community Scholarship will be given to a high school senior who lives within 50 mile of Lee  Premium Outlets.  The student must plan to attend an accredited university, two or four year college or  technical  or  vocational  school.    Applications  are  considered  by  a  variety  of  criteria,  including  academic  record, leadership skills, participation in school and community activities, and financial data.  Online only –  go  to www.syf.org.  Deadline  to  submit  online  including  official  HS  transcript  is  February  25,  2015.   (Number 115) 

Farm  Credit  East,  ACA  offers  several  college  scholarships  to  students  pursuing  careers  in  agriculture,   commercial  fishing  or  the  forest  products  industry.  To  apply  you  must  fill  out  our  brief  application  and  complete  an  essay.    Applications  on  website  at   www.farmcrediteast.com  .  All  applications  and  essays  need to be submitted through their website by April 3, 2015. (Number 52)

Down  Syndrome  ‐  Aim  High  Scholarship  ($1,700):  To  benefit  students  who  will  assist  those  with  Down  Syndrome  by  pursuing  education  and  a  career  in  the  field  of  special  education  or  speech,  physical,  or  occupational therapy.  Deadline to The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region is March 6,  2015.  Applications in guidance or at http://www.cfgcr.org/scholarships.php

The  Amy  Bindelglass  Memorial  Essay  Scholarship  to  enhance  awareness  of  organ  and  tissue  donation.  Must be a high school junior or senior and write a convincing, persuasive essay on the assigned topic, and  demonstrate a clear understanding of the regulations and ethics surrounding organ and tissue donation.  Information in guidance.  Submissions must be postmarked by Friday, May 1, 2015. (Number 55) 

Peter  Gerkman  Jr.  Memorial  Scholarship  –  To  a  Greater  Capital  Region  high  school  senior  who  participated in the high school varsity‐level football program in the fall of 2014.  Must plan to attend an  accredited  trade  school,  college  or  university  (located  in  the  United  States)  in  pursuit  of  a  degree  or  vocational certification.  Student must have demonstrated scholastic ability with a minimum GPA of 80%  and vocational achievement in construction technology.  Deadline to The Community Foundation for the  Greater  Capital  Region  is  March  6,  2015.  Applications  in  guidance  or  at  http://www.cfgcr.org/scholarships.php

The  NYS  Association  of  Agricultural  Fairs  awards  scholarships  to  students  in  his/her  senior  year  of  high  school to provide assistance to any student who has been actively involved in local fairs.  Application must  be  downloaded  from  the  NYSAAF  website, www.nyfairs.org    ,  completed  by  the  student,  signed  by  applicant  and  parent/guardian  and  then  submitted  to  one  of  the  member  fairs  for  endorsement.  Handwritten applications are not considered.   Information in guidance.  Deadline to submit application to  a member fair or the NYSSA is no later than Friday, April 10, 2015.  (Number 46)

Cosimo DiBrizzi Memorial Scholarship  Established by the family of Cosimo DiBrizzi and the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce to honor his  memory, this scholarship is available to any resident of the Hudson Valley who is pursuing a career at the Culinary  Institute of America. Several scholarships will be awarded with awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,000.   Doherty‐Package Pavement Company Scholarship  Students continuing their education beyond high school, whose parents or guardians have been employed by one of  the companies (Package Pavement Company, Inc., Red Wing Properties, Inc., or Stormville Trucking, Inc) for at least  five years, are eligible to apply.  Scholarship is not renewable, but winners may apply in up to four subsequent years.    Scholarships generally range from $1,000 to $2,000.  Eileen Hickey Nursing Scholarship  Established by the family of Eileen Hickey and the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce to honor her  memory, this scholarship is available to any resident of the Hudson Valley who is pursuing a career in nursing at  Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. Several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.  Kathleen H. Zwissler Memorial Scholarship  

Established by Adams Fairacre Farms to honor her memory, this scholarship is available to seniors graduating from  high school and students currently enrolled in accredited academic institutions whose field of study is or will be in a  business‐related field and who works at or whose parents or guardians are employed by Adams Fairacre Farms, Inc.   One $500 scholarship will be awarded.  Luigi and Elisa Panichi Memorial Scholarship   Established by the family of Luigi and Elisa Panichi to honor their memory, this scholarship is available to seniors  graduating from high school and students currently enrolled in accredited academic institutions including 4‐year  public and private colleges or universities, community colleges and trade schools whose parents or guardians are  employed by Panichi Holding Corp. d/b/a Royal Carting Service Co. or Valley 82 Holding Corp. d/b/a Welsh Sanitation  Service.  Scholarships generally range from $500 to $1,000. 

Manufacturing and Trade Scholarship

Established by the Manufacturing and Trade Committee of the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, the  Manufacturing & Trade Scholarship is designed to give Hudson Valley residents, age 17 or older, who possess or are  working towards a High School or General Equivalency Diploma, the opportunity to continue and/or complete their  educational needs in manufacturing or trade profession.  Scholarship monies will be given directly to the educational  institution.  Funds may be used for tuition, materials or textbooks, as necessary components to a Manufacturing or  Trade  course.   Materials  may  include  industry  specific  electronics  (not  including  personal  computers),  measuring  tools, calculators and other educational devices.  The scholarship maximum is $2,000.00 per student. 

Mary Abdoo Fashion Memorial Scholarship

Established by the family of Mary Abdoo and the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce to honor her memory, this scholarship is available to any resident of the Hudson Valley who is pursuing a career in fashion at Marist College. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded.

  All scholarships for Columbia County High Schools are available through the scholarship search feature.  Complete  guidelines and applications are available at www.cfhvny.org.        Palma Hanson Award is awarded to a female student who wishes to further her education beyond high  school.  The work ethic and financial need of the applicant will be considered.  Applications in guidance.  Deadline to guidance is Friday, April 24, 2015.  (Number 78)  Chatham Lions Club Scholarships are given to graduating seniors who are planning to attend college and  have indicated financial need.  Applications in guidance: deadline to guidance is May 1, 2015. (Number 72)  The  Garden  Club  of  Kinderhook  Scholarship  for  graduating  seniors  enrolling  in  a  degree  program  in  Horticulture,  Floriculture,  Landscape  Design,  Environmental  Studies,  Forestry,  Botany,  Agronomy,  City  Planning, Land Management or Related Fields. Deadline to guidance is April 13, 2015.  (Number 48)  COARC KATHELYN CASWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS  will be awarded to two graduating high school  students  who  have  been  accepted  to  matriculate  in  an  undergraduate  college‐level  program  of  study  leading  to  career‐preparation  relevant  to  work  with  the  disabled  (e.g.  rehabilitation  counselor,  special  education teacher, any allied field).  Academic performance and financial need will be the primary criteria.  Deadline to guidance is April 24, 2015. (Number 58) 

Skip  Harkowa  Scholarship  Award  2015  from  the  Columbia  County  Sportsmen’s  Federation    for  environmental conservation and/or an active hunter, fisherman, trapper, conservationist, forestry, wildlife  management,  etc.    Applications  in  guidance.    Deadline  to  Columbia  County  Sportsman  Federation:  Completed  Application  with  ALL  required  supporting  documents  including  recommendations  must  be  received by May 4, 2015. (Number 66)  

Columbia  County  Association  of  Town  Superintendents  Scholarship  awards  two  scholarships  to  engineering students who intend to pursue a career in fields related to infrastructure:  road construction  and  maintenance,  bridge  design,  traffic  control,  transportation,  communications,  energy  generation  and  transmission,  and  the  many  other  technologies  that  are  so  essential  to  our  nation’s  well‐being  and  progress.    Applications  forms  available  in  guidance.  Deadline:  (Applicant  is  responsible  for  mailing)  the  completed  application  and  endorsement  must  be  received  by  the  Columbia  County  Sportsmen’s  Federation by Monday, May 4, 2015.  (Number 95)

NAWIC – National Association of Women in Construction Scholarship 2015 offers an award to a qualified  female  senior  who  plans  to  enroll  in  an  accredited  college  in  construction  related  degree  program  and 

wishes  to  pursue  a  career  in  construction:  constructional  management,  architecture:  civil,  mechanical,  structural,  or  electrical  engineering.    Applications  in  guidance;    Applications  must  be  received  by  Association no later than April 10, 2015. (Number 60) 

 

Paul and Maria Morra Scholarship by Cornell Cooperative Extension is awarded to a current resident of  Columbia  or  Greene  Counties  and  pursuing  further  academic  work  beyond  high  school  in  the  field  of  horticulture,  agriculture,  forestry  or  natural  resources.  Applications  and  criteria  in  guidance.    Deadline:   Packet must be received by Cornell Cooperative Extension by April 15, 2015. (Number 116)
