About us
Banana Moon Day Nursery was started in 2006 as a result of the difficulties encountered by one of our directors when trying to place his own children in what he considered to be a good quality day nursery. It soon became clear that the standards he
required could not be met by any of the childcare businesses he visited, as a result of which the decision was taken to open his own nursery.
Initially this was done by securing a franchise in an existing day nursery network, but it soon became apparent that the nursery had outgrown the franchisor and was in fact leading the development of the franchise, in terms of business modelling, legislation and codes of practice, so a decision was made to remove the business from the franchise network and go it alone under the “ Banana Moon Day Nursery” brand. During this period a second nursery had been opened to serve the increasing local demand and within just a few months the nurseries were being recognised as the best in Warwickshire.

Rachel Kelly always knew she wanted to be her own boss; if she could deal with the stresses and strains of someone else’s business, why not her own?
Before making any decisions my husband and I thoroughly researched the market. We came across Banana Moon and after meeting the team, the decision was simple. We loved the Banana Moon character and brand too – a priceless marketing tool. The journey which followed was far from easy though. Banana Moon provided us with fantastic support and guidance from the outset, however it was up to us to push forward the search for a property, manage the building works, develop positive relationships with the local community and ultimately get a nursery we could be proud of. Now up and running, we can appreciate how the ongoing support from Banana Moon has been invaluable. We are visited regularly by the team (largely made up of ex nursery managers – so they really know what they are talking about!) who provide us with help and guidance on how we are doing. This is an invaluable part of the service that really helps us to keep heading in the right direction and complying with all relevant legislation.
In a nutshell, would I recommend Banana Moon if you want to open your own nursery? Yes! But ultimately it’s YOUR business, so up to you to make it a success. To use a cliché, ‘it has been a rollercoaster ride’, but I can honestly say that I love every day.

Choosing to take voluntary redundancy from her 15 year career in law enforcement, Susie approached Mark Bates at Banana Moon Day Nursery with regards to investing in a children’s day nursery franchise.
On paying her deposit Susie’s territory was secured and Banana Moon got to work looking for property. Banana Moon soon found a beautiful barn conversion set in fantastic rural surroundings.
