The construction of institutional facilities presents a unique set of challenges. Oshawa appreciates the great effort

hockey and recreation that has improved

the quality of our community.

Their team achieved all the formidable

Northern Sports Centre. But the real storey

Infrastructure

Giffels Westpro possesses the experience needed to execute a wide range of civil structures – from bridges, overpasses, tunnels and interchanges, to water / wastewater treatment facilities, pipelines and light rail transportation projects. We have the ability to participate in the process from concept and feasibility stages, to the detailed design, procurement and construction process. Giffels Westpro draws on a specialty group of staff for infrastructure projects and can operate as general contractor, specialized subcontractor or construction manager, as our clients require.

Excellent working rapport – especially evident due to the sensitive time restraints

involved with most of the work carried out at night during the winter months

on a very busy Highway and in a highly environmentally sensitive area.

In our business, planning is paramount. Before we set foot on site, we review every aspect of what we are going to do, and exactly how we are going to do it – to eliminate the obstacles that might hinder a project from reaching its objectives. We also maintain that superior communication at all levels is the key to a successful project. Productivity can only be maximized when all parties are exchanging

information and ideas in an efficient and effective manner. We work closely with owners, architects and the other members of the planning team well before ground is broken, providing cost analysis, scheduling information, and value engineering services to ensure that our client can make informed and qualitative business decisions. We meet with the entire project team every week, to review project

milestones, as well as safety, quality and financial performance. In specific circumstances Giffels Westpro has the ability to self-perform the work of key civil trades. This allows us to ensure higher quality, greater schedule control, and cost savings to the client. Sustainability

The principles of green design emphasize state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environment quality. A LEED®_{-designed building fosters this approach by lowering operating and maintenance} costs, improving employee productivity, and reducing the negative impact on the environment. The savings accrued in operating a high performance building can offset much of the initial capital cost associated with a LEED®_project.

At Giffels Westpro, energy efficient and environmentally friendly design features are now routinely part of the firm’s ongoing construction portfolio. Having constructed the first LEED®_{Silver certified} commercial office building in Toronto, as well as having been involved in the construction of several other LEED®_{registered facilities such as the certified LEED}®_{Burnaby Youth Justice Services Centre,} the LEED®_{Gold BC Breast Cancer Research Centre, and multiple other LEED}®_{registered facilities,} Giffels Westpro is a leader in helping set standards for the industry and a greener planet.
