April 17 2016

We are a community of Faithful Disciples who choose to seek the truth passionately,

to love the Lord and others intensely, and to give freely of our gifts, because we believe that we are called

to make the Kingdom of God visible in the world today

World Day of Prayer for Vocations

In 2016 we mark the 53rd anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Moreover, we celebrate it always on the 4th Sunday in Easter, Good Shepherd Sunday. In today's Gospel reading, we hear about the sheep that always know the voice of the shepherd. May we also hear with ears of faith our Shepherd's call to discipleship.

Let us pray…

Jesus, good and gentle Shepherd, we pray for those among us who hear your voice and call to a vocation in the Church.

Help them to be unafraid of that calling from you of service to the universal church.

Gift them courage to boldly say yes to your call.

Help us to encourage them

in their long journey of discernment and formation.

We offer our thanks to you

for calling us to discipleship in many and various ways, as married men and women,

as single men and women, as priests, deacons, and professed men and women.

We ask all these things

in the name of the Good Shepherd, Jesus, our savior and our brother.

Amen.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 17, 2016

Jubilee of Mercy

Smell like sheep. This is what Pope Francis says: Shepherds should smell like the sheep they shepherd. This is not a charge just to bishops and priests. It is told to all of us, too.

All of us shepherd in little and big ways: in the children we bear and raise, in the students we teach, in the workers we guide, in the customers we serve, in ________. To smell like sheep we must be unafraid, for we are part of the one pro- tected flock, we are all in this together (Jew and Gentile – reread Acts 13:14, 43-52). Sunday makes us one. Jesus makes us one.

•Make a list: who do I shepherd?

•How can I do this with greater love and care?

Monday: Income Tax Day Tuesday:

Wednesday:

Thursday: Anselm, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Friday: Earth Day

Saturday: George, Martyr; Adalbert, Bishop and Martyr Next Sunday: 5th Sunday of Easter

Next Sunday at the 9:30 am Mass we will welcome the parishioners who are actively involved here at St.

Patrick Parish as members of the local chapter of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. They will attend Mass as a group and be remembered in our petitions as well as acknowledged for their efforts to meet the needs of those of our area who they assist through the generous donations of the people of St. Patrick Parish. It is through the monthly special collections and those other donations that they receive from people in the parish, that they are able to reach out to people of the Troy Community in ways of assistance especially in terms of utility payments, food, rent assistance, gasoline and other areas. Last weekend there was a good response to the annual Bundle Sunday collection of both clothing and some furniture. They also are always looking for new members and in the fall will be seeking a new president of the local chapter as well as other officers. Please give some thought if you might be able to volunteer in this ministry extension of our parish.

As I have mentioned in earlier bulletins we will be taking time to as a parish make our pledge commitments to the Catholic Ministries Appeal. This program normal- ly takes place during the Lenten season and this year that came very early as Easter was celebrated the end of March. Since we as a parish had recently completed our pledge donations to the One Faith, One Hope, One Love Archdiocesan Capital Improvement Campaign, I thought it best to allow us some time before entering into this campaign. People in the parish have already re- sponded to the appeal, of which I am grateful for their commitment. As of last week, 145 families/individuals or households have pledge $18,980.00 toward our parish goal of $36,00.00. This amounts to 12.47% of the regis- tered parishioners in our parish; last year we pledge over $37,543.00. The response throughout the Archdio- cese has also been very generous as of this writing, al- ready $4,185,376.00 has been pledge toward the Arch- diocesan goal of $5,000,000.00. This amount has been pledge by 13.4% of the registered households/families and individuals of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Our response as a parish is in the same area of response of the people throughout the Archdiocese. These monies benefit six special ministerial areas that are active throughout the nineteen counties of the Archdiocese.

Envelopes will be placed in the pews along with pencils to allow those who have not yet pledged toward the drive

to do so; if you have already done so you will simply mark the envelope in such a way indicating you have al- ready pledged. I myself have yet to make my pledge for this year’s appeal so I will be completing my form along with those of you who have not yet made your pledge.

We still have several Sundays yet where we are focus- ing upon our second graders as they receive their First Holy Communion and this will finish as of Sunday May 8th. We will take the time to make our pledges on the weekend of May 14-15th. If you have not at that time responded to the CMA appeal, please join me in doing so on that weekend.

Thank you, have a good week! Fr. Jim Duell, Pastor
