Institute for Geriatric Social Work to coordinate a program called ―Feature Films for Fun-Loving Seniors‖--focus groups for older adults and training for area counseling and education

professionals.

1999-2004 Consultant& Manuscript Writer, National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) Social Work Excellence Fellowship.

Provided consultation services to Principal Investigator Karyn Walsh, former Project Director of the VCU/MCV Hemophilia Treatment Center, in Richmond, VA and current coordinator of Bereavement programs at NASW main office in Washington, D.C. Our research is a multi-center study focusing on ―Factors Related to Adherence with Prophylactic Treatments In Children With Bleeding Disorders.‖ Data collection was completed over 6 months and the data analysis and writing stages began in July 2002. Data collection occurred at five major Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) including: Virginia Commonwealth University, Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., Johns Hopkins, the University of Virginia, and Kings Daughters in Norfolk, VA.

1991-2004 Writing and Protocol Team Member, National Institutes of Allergy and Infections Disease’s Terry Beirn Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS (CPCRA) Compliance 012 Study. This social and behavioral-related study was nested in two AIDS clinical trials (PCP prophylaxis and NuCombo treatment study) beginning in 1991. Data for the main clinical trials have been published in leading medical journals. C. Lynn Besch, M.D. (Tulane, Division of Infectious Diseases) is the Principal Investigator and lead writer of our manuscript that will be submitted to the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Our article is entitled Predictors of medication adherence in a PCP prophylaxis trial from the Terry Beirn Community Programs for Clinical Research (CPCRA) on AIDS. Data for this manuscript have been closely scrutinized by biostatisticians at the University of Minnesota, who are also on the writing team and contracted employees by the NIH funded CPCRA initiative.

2003 Recipient of a $400.00 Research and Professional Development New Directions Mini Grant to coordinate a Gerontology Faculty Member program retreat, held in March.

2000-present Co-investigator and Co-author of a study entitled Perceptions of communication and respect from co-workers: A comparison of employees with and without prior long-term care work experience. Dr. Ameda Manetta (Winthrop University, Rockhill, SC) and I have collected data from personnel who work in assisted living facilities in NJ and SC. The survey questionnaire was developed in spring 2000. Data were collected and analyzed in 2001. A manuscript is under review at the Journal of Applied Gerontology.

Summer 2003, Editor Jim Mitchell at East Carolina University, advised that the article had been sent to reviewers in July.

2002 Recipient of a $600.00 Research and Professional Development Mini Grant entitled ―A Content Analysis of Social Work Student Field Work Evaluations.‖ This award provided funds to pay two social work students (who were involved in an Advanced

Research Independent Study with me) to code and input data into an Excel spreadsheet

which was later merged into a SPSS data file for analysis? A report was generated from these data and included in the social work program’s Fall 2002 self-study material for our site visit re-accreditation reviewers from the Council of Social Work Education.

2001 Recipient of a $5,000.00 Distinguished Faculty Fellowship (Research in College Teaching) from The Richard Stockton College of NJ to experience and design a Social Work Spanish Immersion Seminar with Dr. Diane Falk. Traveled to Costa Rica (May 12, 2001 to June 19, 2001) and completed a home-stay experience and a 4-week language course in schools located in Heredia, Monteverde, and Playa Flamingo. The course was offered though the Centro Panamericano de Idiomas (CPI).

2001 Recipient of a $400.00 Research and Professional Development New Directions Mini Grant entitled ―Learning about Group Work: An Experiential Approach.‖ This award provided payment for an outside skilled social work group leader and practitioner to provide an intensive 5-week group work experience in my Spring 2002 semester Practicum II (Group Work) course.

2001 Recipient of a $250.00 Research and Professional Development New Directions Mini Grant entitled Neurobiology for the Non-Scientist: Psyche, Synapse and Addictions. Funds paid for Dr. Harriete Johnson (Professor of Research and Social Work at the University of Connecticut) to present to both social work majors and the Stockton College Biology Program faculty and students in January 2001. Dr. Ralph Werner wrote a letter of support for this venture.

2001 Recipient of a $2900.00 Research and Professional Development grant (Joint Faculty Proposal with Dr. Diane Falk) to develop a Spanish Immersion course for social workers. This award was declined because we were awarded the Distinguished Faculty

Fellowship.

2000 Recipient of a $250.00 Research and Professional Development New Directions Mini Grant to compensate Dr. Asha Solanky (Clinical Director of Psychiatric Services from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia Department of Psychiatry to present to both my Practicum II class and Research Methods and Social Work class on Cultural Diversity Issues in Research and Practice.

Virginia Health Care Foundation: A proposal to fund an initiative, entitled FABE (Fighting AIDS By Educating) designed to use focus group intervention strategies to increase health and mental health awareness and access to primary care and AIDS clinical trials research with medically underserved people residing in low income housing projects. February 1998.

Roche Labs. Inc.: Unrestricted educational grant of $2,000.00. Managed funds to conduct a public forum on HIV research studies and print a resource guide entitled Surviving HIV. Funded Fall 1997.

Abbott Laboratories: Unrestricted educational grant of $2,500.00. Managed funds to cover expenses incurred to market, conduct, and evaluate public educational forums on HIV/AIDS treatment issues. Funded Spring 1996.

Ryan White Title II: Prepared and submitted a grant proposal for Client Emergency service funds to assist clients obtain needed medications, medical supplies, nutritional supplements; and to cover the cost of health care visits. Funded June 1996 for $3,000.00.

National Institutes of Health: Assisted the Richmond AIDS Consortium unit’s Principal Investigator, Thomas M. Kerkering, M.D., in the preparation and submission of competitive renewal RO1 grant applications to the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Division of AIDS, for funds to continue membership in the federally funded Terry Beirn Community Programs for Clinical Research on AIDS (CPCRA) initiative. In 1995, refunded for another 5 years for $2.2 million.

Additional Grant Consultation

HIV Care Consortium of Atlantic and Cape May Counties: 2003, analyzed needs assessment data and wrote a report for the Needs Assessment and Priorities committee to use for a major community presentation.

National Hemophilia Foundation Social Work Excellence Fellowship: 1999-2004, serve as a paid consultant to VCU Principal Investigator on a research study investigating adherence with prophylaxis issues in children with bleeding disorders.

Ryan White Title II: 1997-1998, served as a peer reviewer. Guided by regulations, conducted site visits to agencies of sub-awardees, and evaluated requisite documentation related to the direct services being provided to their HIV infected clients.

Science Museum of Virginia: 1993, served as a consultant on the Focus on AIDS community education forum project, sponsored by and held at the Science Museum of Virginia. This 8 week series was funded by The Community Foundation; it was developed from the ―Mini Med School‖ model and was targeted to educate school age children and their teachers and parents about HIV disease.

Richmond AIDS Ministry: 1990-1991, served as a consultant on the planning committee that submitted a proposal to the agency of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to seek monies for an AIDS Hospice program.

1999-present Manuscript reviewer for the journal entitled Families in Society. Reviewed 4 manuscripts during Fall 2006-Fall 2007 cycle. Reviewed 3 manuscripts and one book during the Fall 1999- Summer 2000 period. Reviewed other manuscripts, since August 2001, on topics ranging from health social work and gerontology to HIV/AIDS and spirituality. Also completed and submitted a second book review on ―Defiance in Families‖ in the winter of 2002.

2001 Children’s Initiative of NJ Project: Cape Counseling Services. Student Applied

Research Project supervision in conjunction with Social Work Field Coordinator, Barry Keefe, and 3 agency field supervisors in Cape May County. Examined existing agency data to learn about issues of school performance and delinquency in families receiving CART services. (Spring semester)

2000 Conducted a Community/Congregational Needs Assessment in 5 churches in Maurice River Township, Cumberland County, NJ. The analyzed data have been used by the Bay Parish committee to justify the need for church sponsored community education forums. To date, the Bay Parish has provided programs on stress management, financial

2000 Ongoing collaboration with Dr. Manetta (Assistant Professor of Social Work at Winthrop University, Rockhill, SC). She and I, along with our students, have replicated a study about levels of respect and communication among staff who work in Assisted Living settings. Data have been partially analyzed and one article has been written and submitted to a journal.
