STEP: Skill Training for Employability Program

It is a student driven initiative for all the branches at St. John Technical campus. A team comprising of second, third and final year students and technical experts within and off campus have collaborated to develop students‘ technical competencies. The purpose of STEP is to update and train students with latest technical developments happening in the industry, through various activities like Workshops, Seminars, Industrial Visits and Certification programmes. SJCEM invites experts and consultants from the industry for training, guest lectures and workshops to understand and overcome the current industrial issues and create awareness about new technology and best

problem solving practices.

Objective:

a)Training is concerned with increasing the knowledge and skills of students for doing specific jobs, learning beyond syllabus, and development involves the growth of students in all aspects, Whereas training increases job skills, development shapes attitudes of students.

Methodology & Process:

Awareness about skill-based, solution-centric learning can bring in a positive shift in making students aware of the actual job scenario through real work environment in the industry. If they don’t learn early- on about how their formal education is going to help them get their dream jobs or the career they aspire for, they will never get an opportunity to realize their dreams. And, of course, skill are dynamic, we need to learn, unlearn and re-learn in order to upgrade as knowledge and technology changes and transforms the workplace requirements.

STEP to be followed:

1.Notice to be circulate in each class for promoting the skill and awareness to the students.

2.Announcement of Skill training, its importance related to employability ,placement to T.E & B.E students.

3.STEP Co-ordinators of respective department drive/initiate the student to participate in the upcoming/latest technology event.

4.Fees has to be collected.

5.Two STEP meeting in a month(depending about the start of event)

6.Co-ordinate with Internal/External Resource Expert for finalising date/accommodation.

7.Conduction of Event, infrastructure requirement ,attendance maintenance record, course details to be maintained.

8. Feedback of students and trainer to be maintained with its analysis.

Learning Outcomes:

FOR STUDENTS

 By focusing on the application of knowledge and skills learned in a course and on the integration of knowledge and skills with other areas of their lives, students are more connected to their learning and to the material of the course.

 The emphasis on integration and generalizable skills helps students draw connections between courses and between coursework and other kinds of knowledge, enhancing student engagement.

 Students understand the conditions and goals of their assessment.

FOR INSTRUCTORS

 The process of developing learning outcomes itself offers an opportunity for reflection on the content of the course in the context of its potential applications. Developing learning outcomes means that the context of the learning will always be emphasized, and courses focus on the knowledge and skills that will be most valuable to the student now and in the future.

TEST Assessment Procedure:

Monitor the quality of your exams

Exams provide you with the opportunity to obtain feedback on student learning, your teaching methods, and the quality of the exam itself.

Write impressions on your exam and keep them. During the exam and the marking of the exam, keep track of which questions seem to be well understood, and which questions were frequently misunderstood.

Collect numerical data. If you have machine-scorable exams, you can get statistics on your questions,

(3)

such as which questions were missed most often or which distracters were most often chosen. In other cases you can collect an overview of the marks.Multiple choice based question depending on the courses conducted.

Get student feedback. You can leave space specifically for feedback on exams, or you can obtain feedback in class after the exam. Consider asking your students to complete an exam wrapper – a short survey asking students about exam preparation strategies they used, what questions they found difficult to answer, and what they might do differently to prepare for the next exam .Evaluation is done for individual student which is been awarded with grade and printed on certificate.

Inclusion of External Agency from 2019-20-Change in STEP Policy
