14 Nebuchadnezzar asked them, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is it true that you don’t serve my gods or worship the gold statue I have set up?
15 Now if you’re ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, fall down and worship the statue I made. But if you don’t worship it, you will immediately be thrown into a furnace of blazing fire—and who is the god who can rescue you from my power?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we don’t need to give you an answer to this question.
17 If the God we serve exists, then he can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and he can rescue us from the power of you, the king.
18 But even if he does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with rage, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He gave orders to heat the furnace seven times more than was customary,
20 and he commanded some of the best soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the furnace of blazing fire.
21 So these men, in their trousers, robes, head coverings, and other clothes, were tied up and thrown into the furnace of blazing fire.
22 Since the king’s command was so urgent and the furnace extremely hot, the raging flames killed those men who carried up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell, bound, into the furnace of blazing fire.
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in alarm. He said to his advisers, “Didn’t we throw three men, bound, into the fire?” “Yes, of course, Your Majesty,” they replied to the king.
25 He exclaimed, “Look! I see four men, not tied, walking around in the fire unharmed; and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”
26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the door of the furnace of blazing fire and called, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God—come out!”
So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire. Daniel 3:14-26 CSB

God’s Word - Devoted to Him
In order to trust God, we must always view our adverse circumstances through the eyes of faith, not of sense.
Jerry Bridges
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said . . .
“Be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods.” Daniel 3:16, 18
The story of the manly courage and marvelous deliverance of the “three holy children” (or, as I like to say, “champions”) will encourage believers to steadfastly uphold truth in the face of tyranny—truly, in the very jaws of death. Let young Christians, especially, learn from their example, both in matters of faith in religion and uprightness in business, never to sacrifice their conscience. Lose everything rather than lose your integrity—and when you are brought to nothing, still hold on to a clear conscience as the rarest jewel adorning the human experience.
Do not be guided by vacillating human policies, but by the polestar of divine authority. Follow the right, whatever the cost. When you see no immediate advantage, walk by faith and not by sight. Do God the honor of trusting Him whenever you face loss for the sake of principle. See whether He will pay you back! See if He won’t prove His word that “godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6)—even in this life. See if it’s true that those who “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” will have all necessary things “added” to them (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).
If, in the providence of God, following your conscience makes you a “loser,” you will find that the Lord may pay you back in the silver of earthly prosperity—though it is more likely He will fulfill His promise in the gold of spiritual joy.
Remember, “life is not measured by how much you own” (Luke 12:15 NLT). To wear a trustworthy spirit, to have a heart free of offense, to enjoy the favor and smile of God—these are greater riches than the gold mines of Ophir could yield or all the commerce of Tyre could produce. “Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred” (Proverbs 15:17). One ounce of peace and happiness is worth a ton of gold.

Compounding Joy
The less I spent on myself and the more I gave to others, the fuller of happiness and blessing did my soul become.
Hudson Taylor Whenever we think like owners, it’s a red flag. We should be thinking like stewards, investment managers, always looking for the best place to invest the Owner’s money.
At the end of our term of service, we’ll undergo a job performance evaluation: “For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat...So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God” (Romans 14:10, 12).
Our name is on God’s account. We have unrestricted access to it, a privilege that is subject to abuse. As His money managers, God trusts us to set our own salaries. We draw needed funds from His wealth to pay our living expenses.
One of our central spiritual decisions is determining what is a reasonable amount to live on. Whatever that amount is and it will legitimately vary from person to person - we shouldn’t hoard or spend the excess. After all, it’s His, not ours. And He has something to say about where to put it.
Every spring my wife and I read through dozens of letters from people in our church who are going on summer mission trips. This year we received forty-five requests asking us to pray and contribute financially. When this time comes each year, I’m like a kid in a candy store - a candy store as big as the world, as big as the heart of God.
Why such excitement?
Because we get to hear the stories and read the emails. We see the enthusiasm, the growth, the kingdom-mindedness, the changed priorities. We gain vested interest in more facets of God’s work around the world. We pray that those who go - as well as those to whom they go - will never be the same. And we will have a part in it!
