SOURCES USED General Explanation
The material in this volume was gathered from all sources available in the county.
We have attempted to make this information as comprehensive and error-free as possible. We know, however, that many deaths were never reported or reported carelessly and many early burials were not marked by gravestones. We also recognize that we, despite exercising much care, will have made occasional errors and we apologize for any problems these errors may cause. We sincerely hope that this book is helpful to your research of ancestors in Cloud County and we invite your comments and/or corrections.
Volume II (this volume) uses the same sources as Volume I but has had one new source added. That being the records of the Domoney Funeral Home which was active in the eastern part of our county during those years. In addition to the 1903 to 1911 records, we have added or amended earlier records at the close of this volume to include information on deaths reported in that record prior to 1903.
The Funeral homes of Rigby & Wilson of Concordia and Turner of Clyde, are a part of this record as well and the Cloud County Genealogical Society has been reading the stones from all county cemeteries and these records were integrated as we proceeded. In a few cases, our source has been family
genealogical records, but only where no other records were found or where additional information was needed. Finally, all microfilmed early newspapers of the county were read and integrated as well as the records from many early churches when available.

A primary source is listed in the far right column. It may be the only one found or only one of several. In each listing you may be able to find one or more additional clues to sources. As this publication is intended to be used as a starting point rather than a final source, we wish you happy hunting!
A000 An 'A' followed by 3 numbers indicates Vol A Early deaths in the Cloud County Clerk's office, Concordia, KS. it was the original basis for this work. This volume was derived from information provided by county doctors and was discovered to have many errors. When found, we have attempted to correct them. A 'B' followed by 3 numbers indicates that Volume B at the Clerk's office is the source.
AMES This indicates that the primary source was an early Ames, KS, newspaper which can be read on microfilm in the Frank Carlson Library, Concordia, KS.
AUR This indicates that the primary source was microfilm of an early Aurora, KS, newspaper.
These are available at the Frank Carlson Library in Concordia, KS.
ACA Death records have been taken from the records of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Nazareth Motherhouse.
BLA A primary source will have been one of several early Concordia Newspapers - Blade Empire and others. These have been read by Mildred Barber of Concordia, KS, and placed in alphabetical card files available in the Cloud County Museum, Concordia, KS.
BAP These records were found in early Swedish Baptist records kept at the Baptist Church, Concordia, KS.
BUS This code indicates that a record of the death was found in a diary kept by an early Presbyterian Minister, Rev. Horace Bushnell.
CEM This usally indicates that the only source found was the gravestone or exiting cemetery records. The Cloud County Genealogical Society has published one volume of cemetery records and is making preparations to publish the 2nd book at this time. A third (and possibly a fourth) will follow.
CHU Records from the Catholic Church in the town where buried (except the St. Joseph Records are kept in the parsonage at Clyde, KS.
CLY An abbreviation for Clyde, referring to any early Clyde newspapers. These have been microfilmed and are available at the Frank Carlson Library, Concordia, KS, or at the Kansas Historical Library in Topeka, KS.
COR These entries refer to information derived from correspondents searching for information in Cloud County. This information has been placed on file cards by our local researcher, Jeanne
Chubbuck and is available in the Genealogical section of the Frank Carlson Library.
DOM These indicate the the primary source was the Domoney Funeral home of Aurora, KS.
The original records are kept at Chaput Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia.
GLA Short for Glasco. Entries coded in this fashion have been found in any of the early Glasco newspapers available on Microfilm at the Glasco, KS, public library or at the Kansas State Historical Library at Topeka, KS.
HIS Taken from one of two early Cloud County Histories available at the Cloud County Museum, Concordia, KS.
JAM Short for Jamestown. These entries have been found in one of the early Jamestown, KS, newspapers. These are available on microfilm in the Frank Carlson Library, Concordia, KS, or at the Kansas State Historical Library in Topeka, KS.
KAN These entries have been located in Cloud County Kansan newspaper, either daily or weekly issues and the microfilm records of these are available at the Frank Carlson Library, Concordia, KS, or at the Topeka State Historical Library.
MIL An early Miltonvale newspaper is coded thus. These are available on microfilm at the Frank Carlson Library, Concordia, KS, or the Kansas Historical Library in Topeka, KS.
TUR Short for Turner Funeral Home records. This was a Clyde, KS, mortuary and the original records are currently in the keeping of Ralph Hardin, Clyde, KS>
WIL This code indicates that the death has been recorded by either Simmons & Wilson (or later), Rigby & Wilson funeral home. These businesses operated out of Concordia, KS, and the original records are available for research at the Cloud County Museum, Concordia, KS.
