OVERVIEW

The global communication and the continuous growth of services provided through the Internet or local infrastructure require to build a platform to offer high availability and an optimized access to the services, which could affect directly to the business costs. For this reason, a solution is required to scale services in an easy way limitless.

Zen Load Balancer was designed to provide a broad solution for high availability, load balancing and application delivery controller in an out of the box format. Also, features as clustering, advanced networking configuration, vlan tagging, monitoring, configuration backups, advanced status reporting, secure certificates management, advanced health backend checks, high availability cluster service, etc.

The Zen Load Balancer project was born as an open source project backed by an open community but adopted by Sofintel IT Engineering SL, integrating the open source development method benefits with the commercial sector advantages, which both are able to maintain a successful project.

Zen Load Balancer is widely used around the world by a broad target sectors as financial, health care, energy, telecommunications, information technology, tourism, education, science, advertising, audiovisual, governments or public sector, etc.

Services from low level to higher level protocols are able to be handle by ZenLB at different OSI layers, which could provide different high performance features against more complexity managing the protocols content. Link layer load balancing at kernel level is also capable to be balanced with ZenLB in an uplink topology fashion.

FEATURES

ZenLB Enterprise Edition specs. The Zen Load Balancer Enterprise Edition provides a more featured and improved functionalities to make easy the maintenance and an updated system.

Advanced checking for layer 4 farms, last updated distribution packets, latest load balancing core for http/https farms, security improvement, farmguardian optimization, etc.

The Enterprise Edition system is updated with the linux kernel version 3.2, integrates the HTTP and HTTPS pound core 2.6, and the latest load balancing cores for high performance layer 4. With this custom version, you can obtain instant hotfixes and full professional support available.

64 bits support. The optimized 64 bits platform provides a better performance for high infrastructure consolidation requirements. This property allows much more performance that would be unable to be reached with 32 bits as to assign more than 4 GB of RAM and more than one virtual core. The full system is 100% ready for 64 bits support.

ZVA light weight distribution. The ZVA is ready with the only needed packages to be deployed lightly. Ready for fast deployment without installation. The light distribution format is ready for fast deployment without installations. Quick first setup. An already installed software let you integrate the ZVA into your infrastructure with an easy and quick first setup.

Layer-7 load balancing. The layer-7 farms supports protocol handling from low level TCP and UDP to high level as HTTP and HTTPS. This kind of farms allows some advanced protocol handling to accelerate backend services and providing some

extra functions off loading this task to the backends side, including content management and decision regarding the traffic data.

Layer-4 load balancing. Layer-4 at kernel level provides to ZenLB an ultra high raw TCP and UDP connections performance saving huge amount of system resources targeted to service delivery.

The L4 could be protocol agnostic allowing to setup a farm for different protocols at the same time with the same configuration and persistence.

Algorithms like round robin and/or priority are available. Supports NAT masquerade.

Layer-3 load balancing. Layer-3 provides a routing based load balancing method to build high availability and load balanced connections for uplinks communications.

HTTP and HTTPS session persistence. High integration possibilities with session persistence enabled web apps thorugh cookie, header, basic, ip, and URL.

SSL offload for HTTP. Secure Socket Layer desacelleration freeing this task to the backends.

This option allows to encapsulate the HTTPS protocol from the client to the load balancer,

meanwhile the communication between the load balancer and the backend is in plain HTTP. With this feature you'll need less resources in the backend side or implement SSL in an easy way to any web app.

HTTP reverse proxy. The reverse proxy capabilities allows to use the same IP and port from the same farm in order to balance several websites according to a URL pattern defined by the administrator.

HTTP redirections. The HTTP farms provide redirection functionalities according to a URL pattern defined by the administrator, even to a HTTPS website version.

HTTP and HTTPS content switching. This feature allows to modify certain headers or content in order to handle in an optimal way the different web connections.

Wide range of load balancing algorithms.

Basic algorithms like weight or priority are implemented, including more advanced like round robin or hashing.

Advanced checking for backends through FarmGuardian. FarmGuardian detects the health for the backends using full configurable scripts and deactivate the server from the farm. This allows to configure a content checking or snmp monitoring to activate or deactivate servers in the farm.

VLAN tagging 802.1Q. Easily integrated with VLAN tagging network configurations.

Advanced network configurations. Full and limitless capabilities to create physical, virtual or VLAN interfaces in an easy way. Independent route tables allows a full configurable routing option without static routes.

Backups. A backup tool for configuration files is

available out of the box.

Load Balancing architecture integration.

ZenLB supports a wide range of service architecture options to be able to integrate the load balancing service in every infrastructure in an easy way. SNAT, DNAT and NAT configurations supported, also a gateway operation mode is capable.

PCI Compliance capabilities. ZenLB is able to comply the PCI security standard and sort out the most popular security attacks.

High availability load balancing Cluster. A cluster service for the load balancing service active-passive is provided with real time automatic synchronization between nodes. Scalable design with multiple Zen Load Balancers for very High concurrence applications is also available.

Advanced graphic global status. A complete graph status is provided to know with an overview the full status of the load balancer and each of their farms.

Administration GUI. An easy administration friendly user interface and SSH access allows a full system control.

Virtual services tuned on the fly. Most of the farms parameters are capable to be tuned on the fly without restarting the service.

NTP time synchronization. NTP synchronization capability.

SSL certificates management. Graphic control panel to manage SSL certificates for SSL offload.

System upgrade capable. ZLB upgrades are available to maintain your ZVA up to date.

PRODUCTS

The ZenLB Virtual Appliances known as ZVA are virtual guests machines ready to be deployed easily in any of the supported hypervisors like VmWare ESXi 5.0/5.1/5.5, Hyper-V 2012/2012 R2, Xen Server 6.2.0 and KVM for kernel 3.2.0. The ZVAs are provided with Zen Load Balancer Enterprise Edition v3.04 and full optimized for paravirtualization.

The Zen Networks 3300 is the hardware line of Zen Load Balancer Enterprise Edition v3.04 with a builtin safe system to become a robust product without too much maintenance but with upgrades capabilities.
