Basics of lining and composite construction



For tanks in the chemical industry, in which thermo

plastics have to be used for corrosion reasons, there

are tank dimensions and/or operating conditions

where solid thermoplastic design is neither commer

cially viable nor technically feasible.

In this case it is possible to use a composite design,

with a chemically resistant thermoplastic inside

and a GRP (glassfibre reinforced plastic) outside for

mechani cal strength. There is also the option of lin

ing steel tanks with a thermoplastic, which in terms

of the manufacturing process is quite different from

composite design.

Target group

Training is particularly aimed at processors/tank constructors/ planners who wish to undertake work in these areas or would like to gain an overview of the options available in this field of application.

Topics

Choice of material Material basics Technical characteristics Adhesion systems Processing

Manual lamination method

Wrapping method

Vacuum method

Methodology

The specialised presentations are held by employees from the Applications Technology Department of SIMONA AG.

There will be practical demonstrations at our Technology Centre.

Resysta

®

, an innovative hybrid material based on rice

husks and a specific type of thermoplastic.

Once pro cessed, the extruded, weatherproof sheets

look and feel like wood – without a single tree having

to be sacrificed to produce them. SIMOWOOD is par

ticularly popular as a material used in patio decking,

wellness areas and wet rooms, outdoor furniture or

shipbuilding. SIMOWOOD sheets complement the ex

isting range of Resysta

Specialist training course: semi-finished plastics for prostheses

and orthoses

Over the last few decades sheets made from thermo

plastic materials have gradually replaced traditional

materials used in the production of prostheses and

orthoses, e. g. leather, wood and cork.

In this context, the quality of the final product is

dependent to a large extent on the specific properties

of the plastics used for these purposes as well as the

actual quality of the sheet materials.

As part of a oneday seminar, we will look at the

fundamentals of plastics, focusing on their specific

properties and processing methods.
