PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle. Be our protection against the
wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
St. Joseph pray for us!
“I have never known a person
to have been truly devoted to
St. Joseph and to have
rendered him special honor
without seeing him advance
rapidly in virtue; because the
holy patriarch assists with
special care those who
recommend themselves to him
… should the reader not
believe my words, I only ask
him for the love of God to
make a trial and he will
experience for himself what a
grace it is to recommend
oneself to this glorious
patriarch.”
~St. Teresa of Avila

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Last Saturday of May In 1857, Father Jules Chevalier in the diocese of Bourges, France, began promoting devotion to the Blessed Mother under this title. His aim was to enlist Mary’s help in leading us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The devotion has since spread to Italy, Mexico and a number of other countries. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., inc.
Our Lady of Altagracia January 21
In 1502, on the island of Hispaniola, the Blessed Virgin Mary was honored under the title of Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia. Her image had been brought from Spain by Alfonso and Antonio Trejo, brothers who were among the first European settlers of the island. Notice how St. Joseph is portrayed in the background.
She is now the patroness of the Dominican Republic. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., inc.

THE GLORIA! Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
The Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of
heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Pentecost Reading I Acts 2:1-11 (A)
When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind,
and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem.
At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused
because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites,
inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia,
Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome,
both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.”
Responsorial Psalm 104:1, 24, 29-30, 31, 34
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD, my God, you are great indeed! How mani-fold are your works, O LORD! the earth is full of your creatures.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in his works! Pleasing to him be my theme; I will be glad in the Lord.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
If you take away their breath, they perish and return to their dust.
When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Reading II 1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13 (A)
Brothers and sisters: No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spir-it; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spiritis given for some benefit.
As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.
Gospel Jn 20:19-23 (A)
On the evening of that first day of the week,
when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,
Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Whose sins you forgive are forgiv-en them,
and whose sins you retain are retained.”

WHO WILL REPLACE HIM?
THE PRIEST
If he preaches over 10 minutes, he's long-winded & wasting time. If his sermon is short, he didn't prepare it or cannot preach. If he thinks too much, he's an introvert.
If he is handsome, you wonder why he is not married! If he is ugly, we think no one wanted him!
If the parish funds are high, he's a businessman. If he mentions money, he's money-minded. If he visits his parishioners, he's nosey. If he doesn't, he's being snobbish.
If he has fairs and bazaars, he's bleeding the people. If he doesn't, there isn't any life in the parish.
If he takes time in the confessional to help and advise sinners, he takes too long. If he doesn't, he doesn't care.
If he celebrates liturgy in a quiet voice, he's boring. If he puts feeling into it, he's an actor.
If he starts Mass on time, his watch is fast. If he starts late, he's holding up the people.
If he tries to lead the people in music, he's showing off. If he doesn't, he doesn't care what the Mass is like. If he decorates the church, he's wasting money. If he doesn't, he's letting it run down.
If he has a nice car, we wonder where that money comes from! If he has an old car, we think he's not of our time!
If he is in a cassock, it is said that he is traditionalist!
If he is in t-shirt and baseball cap they say he can’t possibly be a priest! If he's young, he's not experienced. If he's old, he ought to retire. But if he dies…
THERE MAY BE NO ONE TO REPLACE HIM!
PLEASE PRAY FOR VOCATIONS !
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The roots of today’s “birthday of the Church” are in an ancient Jewish festival of springtime harvest, seven weeks after
Passover. Now, seven weeks after Easter, our great fifty days of rejoic-ing come to an end. In the countries where the Church first came to life, this is a time of harvest, and the first fruits appear: apricots and lemons, cherries and strawberries. Even in our gardens, herbs are abundant and asparagus, that close relation of the Easter lily, comes fresh to our tables. The earth is laden with so much new life, and that has always been a sign to Christians of Easter’s glory.
Pentecost means “fifty” and our fifty days of Easter joy are com-plete. This Sunday is a day to savor the glory of Easter once more: pic-nics and cookouts, walks by the water, time in the garden—are all ways of extending the feast. Notice the paschal candle today, still burning dur-ing Mass. Our Easter celebration now complete, the candle will soon be moved to a place near the baptismal font, and be lighted at baptisms and funerals as a silent witness to Christ’s abiding presence.

LORD, SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT
In today’s responsorial psalm the Church sings out: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.” All three readings describe how God has answered that prayer already.
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apos-tles and in the Gospel passage from John, we read of astonishing events that called cowering disciples to step out of hiding and proclaim news that would condemn them and change the world forever! In the second reading Paul’s words reach out into the fu-ture to us: “we were all given to drink of one Spir-it” (1 Corinthians 12:13).
It is our task to truly pray today’s psalm re-sponse. Let us together beg the Holy Spirit to renew the earth by renewing the Church, sending many more men and women to serve in its various minis-tries. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
WHO IS ST. JOSEPH TO YOU? Is he a protector to you as Terror of Demons? Is he a defender of Christ? Is he a role
model of fatherhood? Is he an intercessor for you when you defend the Church? Is he a protector of priests? Is he hope of the sick? Is he patron of the dying? Or is he a stranger? Regardless of where you are in your relationship with St. Joseph, take some time this year and get to know him a little bit better. We will be sharing our memories/stories here...who knows you just may inspire someone to have a stronger devotion to this great and holy man of God.
Visit The Archdiocesan Website http://archphila.org/joseph/ for more information on the Year of St. Joseph “Go to Joseph” (Ite Ad Joseph) During this Year of St. Joseph, we implore his help
and protection by going to him. Let us increase our devotion to St. Joseph and imitate his vir-tues and his love of Jesus and Mary.
Our country, our military, police and first responders all need our prayers now! Please continue to pray for all in harms way who help protect us and our country. God bless and protect them all. Many have returned home and need both physical and emotional care. They cannot be forgotten. Pray for all those who have unselfishly given up their lives for our freedom. Jesus has said, “There is no greater love
than to lay down one’s life for a friend”. May God give them
strength and courage to continue to fight the battles they struggle with abroad and here at home! Please check our military board
and if you have anyone in your family who is currently in the military please send us a picture with their information.

EAST OFFAITH
Liturgy: Work of the Spirit
The Spirit of God who hovered over the waters at the dawn of crea on—the Holy Spirit who descended upon the disciples at Pentecost in ever-changing forms in the sound of a mighty wind or tongues of flame—hovers also over our cele-bra on of the liturgy, giving it life, making it real. It is the Spirit of God who draws us, gathering us together, Sunday a er Sunday. It is the Spirit of God who called loudly to the inspired writers of the scriptures and who con nues to whisper to us, revealing ever-new facets of God’s word, gran ng insight just when we need it. It is by the Spirit’s power that, when Christ’s words are u ered by the priest, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. And it is surely the Spirit who inspires us—that is, breathes in us—when, sent forth from the assembly, we seek ways to serve our brothers and sisters, to allow the gospel to come to life in the world. Come, Holy Spir-it, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
