Contextualization

• Emercency situations
• 3 weak stages amoung 5
Depicting an event… What do
you do?
5
First witness
Emergency situations
6
Emergency situations
• Who ever witnessed an accident?
• Who can pretend to be a health professional?
• Who considered having reacted “well”?
• Do you know the “3 main stages” that first witness should do?
This serious game can provide answers
7
3 weak stages among 5
1.
Scene
understanding
& securing 2.
Basic first aid
5.
Hospital emergency 4.
Advanced first aid + transport
to hospital 3.
Emergency call

3 weak stages among 5
The first witness => This SG
First witnesses are almost never health professionals!
Death: 1 min => 20%
Most victims dies here

Application domain
11
To show SG potential
Domain should…
Kindergarten!
… have people at risk
… be with professional without health expertise
… be open to serious games
… be willing to participate almost for free

Game concept & development
• Budget constraints
• Serious game concepts
• App development
Budget constraint
16
Choice for - game design - game concept
Our group usual works - real-time hologram rendering - rehabilitation SG platform - museum art object rendering - spatial trips
Strong budget constrains - “very realistic” rendering - no 3D
- no graphics - no animation - no special effects … - only pictures !
Budget constraint
17
Quite a challenge here…
- game design - game concept
Serious game concept
18
About true stories… …and where your choices
involve consequences
…taking the form of picture stories…
Serious game concept
19
And so on for 400 pictures!
2 scenarios
20
Fingers stuck on a metallic door
Sudden infant death
Both scenarios involve potential death of a child
• 20 collected from experts
• 10 selected with emergency staff
• 5 designed as SG levels
• 2 implemented & tested

- Advice on actions from the SG
- User comments

User tests
• Have we proved a real impact?
No, we’ve just shown a potential interest
• What have been observed?
People felt concerned and have “appreciated” the SG
• What can be concluded?
There is a strong need

Perspectives
• Many other scenarios for kindergarten
• Many of then can be deployed up to high school
• Any situation can be scenarized
29
Take-home messages
• Anyone can be trained for…
…identifying & securing the scene
…practicing very basic first aid
…calling emergency
• Making a serious game with pictures…
…is obviously easy and cheap to develop
…seems to have a strong potential
• Looking for partners to transform this prototype into an App
