Importance of Catholic schools today-by Michael Lancaster

Why do Catholic schools exist? When you look at this from a student’s view, there are two clear goals: 1) College and 2) Heaven. While we hope that students realize these goals in this order, Heaven is clearly the more important of the two.

Impact on Church: Studies show that among millennial's, those who attended Catholic School are three times more likely to consider a vocation in the church. They are also likely to attend Mass weekly, participate in their parish, volunteer and tithe.

Academic excellence: Academically, Catholic schools hold high expectations for students, instilling solid study skills and work ethic. Studies show that students consistently score higher in reading and math. Catholic schools focus on faith, working to form the whole child academically, physically, intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and so- cially.

How can you help: The most direct ways you can help are by contributing time, talent, treasure, and prayer.

San Francisco de Asis is looking for an Aftercare Assistant for their afterschool

program. The school will be starting an afterschool program for school families and need your help. If you are interested, please

email Mr. Carroll at bcarroll@sfdaparish.org or go to

Franciscan Corner

Penance and penitential prac- tices focus on conversion, i.e.

moving from a self-centered, I- focused and selfish way of life to one in which doing God's will and desire becomes the focus of life. Conversion takes time, effort and prayer.

MASS INTENTIONS

St Paul Street Evangelization

“Evangelization is simply one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.”

If you have ever considered evangelizing but don’t feel adequate to the task, consider Fr Ian’s words: “It’s not about

success or failure or how much you know. It is about relying on God.”
