Page 2 Linked Parishes of St. Thomas Aquinas & St. Mar!n of Tours January 20, 2019 SACRAMENT OF THE SICK: Call Fr. Quinlivan any time, before surgery, or if you or someone you know is in the hospital. A priest should be called for the Sacrament of the Sick while the person is able to go to Confession and receive Eucharist.

BAPTISMS: - Parents are required to attend a Pre- Baptismal Class before arranging the baptism of their child. It is recommended that they attend as early as pos- sible, preferably during the period of pregnancy. Classes are offered the second Monday of the month at 7:00 PM in the faculty room at Notre Dame Academy. To register, call Leader Couple, Marty and Mary Kennedy at 825- 6327.

MARRIAGES:- Couples should call the pastor, Fr. Quin- livan (823-7077), to make arrangements. He will get you started with the procedures that need to be followed in order to be married in the church. Engaged couples should make wedding arrangements at least six months in ad- vance. Pre-Cana classes are required.

CHURCH ANNULMENT:- If you are seeking an annulment of your marriage in the Church, The Buffalo Diocese Mar- riage Tribunal is here to help you. Since the involvement of Pope Francis, and endorsed by Bishop Malone, the an- nulment process is provided at no cost to you. If you are interested in exploring the process, simply call 847-8769.

LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION: - A letter of recommen- dation to act as a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation can only be issued to parishioners who have been registered a minimum of six months and who regularly attend Mass and receive the Sacraments. Regular use of envelopes indi- cates attendance at Mass. Call the Parish Office for more information.

SACRIFICIAL GIVING FOR STA Weekend of January 13

Regular Collection: $5132.05 Thank you for your generosity!

Tax donation letters are now available by contacting the parish office

Welcome to our Parish Community We ask God’s blessing on the following children who were baptized into our Christian community in December and January: Finnegan John Marmion, Jacob Alex Welsh, Vance Nathan Bills, Abigail Marie Hugar, Ryan Patrick Fahey, Reese Mae Lalley, Abigail Rose Barrett, Denali Lynn Peterson, and Bryce Matthew Musial.

Focus on Life

Each January Catholics are asked to stop and reflect on the gift of life and the tragedies that have occurred since the infamous Roe v. Wade Su- preme Court decision. Many of the faithful will travel to Washington D.C. for the National Prayer Vigil for Life, an all night pro-life prayer vigil and then take part in the annual March For Life. Since 1979, over 20,000 pilgrims from across the nation have partici- pated in this event to pray through the night for an end of abortion and a greater respect for all human life. It is held at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

This year there is a new reason for us to pray.

New York State’s Governor Andrew Cuomo and leg- islative leaders have promised to pass a dangerous proposal called the “Reproductive Health Act”. The bill has been introduced and would eliminate New York’s current restrictions on late-term abortion, em- power non-doctors to perform abortions, remove pro- tections against unwanted or coerced abortions, and even legalize infanticide of live-born infants. We need to respond!

Catholics are asked to contact their legislative leaders in Albany and tell their representatives to stand strong and reject the “Reproductive Health Act”

and stop abortion expansion. You can find your legis- lator at www.nyscatholic.org.

Another way that you can demonstrate your concern for life is to take part in the Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children on Janu- ary 22nd. Put a lighted candle in your front window on this night to show that you are committed to pro- tecting all life, from the moment of birth to the mo- ment of natural death. Every life is a gift from God;

let us treasure this most precious gift!

The residents and staff of the Buffalo Peace House are truly grateful to each of you for the generous donation you have awarded us. We promise to be good stewards and make careful choices to wisely serve our asylum seekers. We’d also be glad to speak with your group in the next few months. Indeed, you have provided us with HOPE. With much appreciation, Mary E. Callahan, Volunteer Director On behalf of the Valley Community Association, we would like to thank the H.O.P.E. Committee and the St.

Martin of Tours/St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Communities for your generous donation to our nationally- recognized “Striving for Excellence” Youth Program. Your funds will help us complete a computer lab upgrade, replacing computers that were old and many times did not work as they should. We serve over 200 youth in grades K-8 per year, all of whom utilize the computer lab to learn computer and internet skills as well as con- duct research projects, complete online school assignments, and more. Other programs utilize the computer lab such as our “First in the Family” Program which uses computers to research college and career options. Your do- nation is greatly appreciated-we know there are many worthy charities and we are honored that you chose to support the Valley Community Association! Lori Overdorf, Director of Development & Youth Services To the Parishioners of St. Martin of Tours:

On behalf of the clients, staff, and volunteers of the St. Brigid Food Pantry, please accept my sincerest grati- tude for all the wonderful gifts and the check you provided. Your generosity made a lot of families’ Christmas much brighter. Thank you again and I look forward to working with you again in 2019.

Happy New Year and God Bless, William Larsen
