Alternative Doctoral Residency Requirements
You must take 18 hours of coursework over three consecutive semesters, starting in the Fall.
Required Courses: AIL 691 and 5 other courses. The five other courses must include at least three courses on the Tuscaloosa campus and no more than two online/Gadsden courses.

Foundations Requirement (12 semester hours)

FOUNDATIONS REQUIREMENT: 12 hours or graduate coursework comprising (a) any BEF or BEP classes or (b) any other non-research methods courses outside of the student’s department. —Must include three semester hour graduate-level course in the history and/or philosophy of education and an additional nine semester graduate hours from Foundations of Education courses or course work outside the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Technology Studies in disciplines which are foundational to the student’s major.
GRADUATE SCHOOL PH.D. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Minimum of 48 semesters hours of course credit beyond the Masters degrees. • Minimum of 24 semester hours of dissertation research credit.
• Time limits for courses: 6 years before admission; 7 years after admission
• Transfer rule: up to one-half of course credit (not to include dissertation research credit)
Ph.D. Doctoral Program Planning Committees require a minimum of five members. One committee member must be outside the department in which the student is enrolled.
