Welcome Letter
Dear Fellows:
Welcome to the Teaching Fellows Program and welcome to the Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Endicott College. We are proud of this unique and innovative Fellows program and look forward to your involvement in the graduate school.
You are about to embark on an intensive and rigorous graduate program, that upon successful completion next spring, you will have gained invaluable profes-sional experience working in a school district. This experience, coupled with the coursework, will enable you to become a more effective teacher for children in our schools. This coming year will require dedication, commitment, and hard work.
Please check in regularly with your advisor to ensure all program require-ments are met. In case you need additional assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am available to make your educational journey as smooth and fulfilling as possible.
Sincerely,
Mary Huegel, Ph.D.
Program Expectations
The Fellowship

Fellows assume the role of literacy coaches, reading specialists in residence, reading specialists in training, special education teachers in residence, tutors, and co-teachers. As members of the local school faculty and staff, fellows follow the school schedule and adhere to the standards and practices of the sponsoring district. Fellows are provided the same absence privileges as provided to district teachers. While assigned to the district, all teaching fellows shall be accountable to the district to abide by all district rules, policies and procedures as deemed applicable by the district.
While assigned to the District, all Teaching Fellows shall be accountable to the District. The Teaching Fellow shall abide by all District rules, policies, and procedures as deemed applicable by the District. Any Teaching Fellow who does not follow the above or meet performance expectations in the judgment of the supervising principal or school district liaison may be released from the Teaching Fellow’s respective district placement. In such a case neither the district nor Endicott College shall in any way be responsible for said Teaching Fellow’s tuition at Endicott.

Professionalism
The Teaching Fellows program models what students will encounter in the work-force. To that end, students are expected to dress business casual and conduct themselves as professionals for each day throughout the program. Fellows should obtain a copy of the district and/or school policy handbook and abide by the practices described within that document.
Advisement
Each Fellow has been assigned an Endicott advisor. Please contact your advisor if you have questions or concerns regarding your fellowship, coursework, or licensure status.
Technology
Committing to success in the Endicott Teaching Fellows program requires your full and undivided attention. Unless otherwise instructed, laptops, cell phones, tablet devices et al are to be left powered off and unused during class time.
Preparation
Each course will vary in the quantity of time needed outside of class to complete assignments and preparation for discussion. Students should anticipate spending a minimum of 4 hours a week in outside class hours for each course. The class-room is an academic environment in which every student is expected to be fully prepared to discuss assignments due and ready for active discussion of readings and lecture notes daily.
Grading
Each instructor will have carefully defined rubrics in each course syllabus, clear-ly describing how each grade will be determined. Grading will be reviewed and approved by the Director of Licensure Programs.
