School of Management Undergraduate Programme Overview – 2015 entry

Notes for undergraduate students in picking optional modules

Programmes contain modules that students study. Each module has a credit weighting assigned to it (15 or 30 credits). Students study 120 credits worth of modules each academic year, pursuing 60 credits in each one of the two semesters (September – December; January – May).

Programmes include compulsory modules that must be taken and in the second and third years also provide students the freedom to pick a certain number of optional or elective modules. The number of modules that students may select varies by programme (and is shown in this document). There are some “non-credit bearing” modules which students may take in addition to their 120 credits in areas such as English language support, Employability skills and computerised accounting.

The selection of optional modules takes place in the Spring preceding the next academic year through “module pre-selection” conducted through the online student records system.

Students should find their programme in this booklet to look at the compulsory modules they will study next year and how many optional modules they can pursue. Students should then look at the separate “Undergraduate Elective Modules Overview 2015-16” document to identify optional modules they which to pursue. All documents and the full details on each of these modules is available online via the Student Hub and the process is supported by a Module Choice Fair before Easter.
