Pervasive and Cyclical Data Fragmentation
In the conventional reactive approach to managing data, master data is sourced primarily from internal customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and legacy applications. This data then goes through a controlled process within a master data management (MDM) system to become the single source of truth for the enterprise. Such processes are entrusted to a small group of data stewards, who enrich, match, and reconcile for the entire enterprise what is actually incomplete, inconsistent, and duplicate master data. The MDM system then synchronizes the unreliable master data back to the applications for consumption by business users.
