ACCREDITED PROGRAMS OF INITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION IN NSW

To help future NSW teachers develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and values needed to improve student outcomes, all initial teacher education programs undergo a rigorous assessment process managed by the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES) leading to the NSW Minister for Education approving the accreditation of the program.

The Policy and Procedures for Accreditation of Initial Teacher Education Programs describes the accreditation process. Programs are assessed by Accreditation Panels overseen by the BOSTES Initial Teacher Education Committee in relation to meeting the Program Standards as described in Accreditation of Initial Teacher Education Programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures April 2011 and the requirements of NSW Supplementary Documentation.

Program accreditation is for up to 5 years and guarantees that all graduates of accredited programs are eligible for Provisional Accreditation to teach in NSW schools. Upon application, a Statement of Eligibility for Accreditation to Teach will be provided by the BOSTES to these graduates.

Programs marked Pending Accreditation are currently undergoing the accreditation process. Some programs that are approved to 2014 are being replaced by other programs that are current undergoing the accreditation process.

At the end of this document is a list of programs approved under historical NSW requirements that are no longer accepting new enrolments. Applicants for accreditation who have completed one of these programs continue to be eligible for Provisional Accreditation.
