Note the following safety notices when installing and operating an Experion Orion Console.

CAUTION: PINCH WARNING

Pinch points and other safety hazards have been designed out of the product as much as feasible; however, they cannot be entirely eliminated.

Special precaution should be taken when accessing the

equipment tray. The lift column function should not be used or the work surface lowered while an operator is accessing the equipment tray or any other part of the console under the work surface.

To avoid pinch points and personal injury, operators should never have their hand, arms, feet or any other part of their body resting on the top of the equipment tray when the work surface is being lowered. The top of the equipment tray should never be used as an additional work surface and nothing should be placed on top of it or over the ventilation holes.

CAUTION: ELECTRICAL AND FIRE SAFETY

To avoid injury or damage from electrical hazards:

l Do not perform electrical work on the console without proper

training and qualifications.

l Do not perform electrical work, without first disconnecting the

electrical power source. Do not disconnect power from the console when the console is in active use, otherwise this could result in a loss of view.

l Use this console only on the power voltage that the console

was delivered specifically for: 110 V AC (for North American regions) and 220-240 V AC (for regions outside of North America).

Many of the power inputs and outputs of this console are equipped with universal plugs and sockets. However, this console contains parts where the voltage is specific to the

(8)

region to which it is being delivered, or for the voltage specified by the customer at the time of purchase.

l Do not operate the controls when standing in water.

l Do not operate the console if petroleum, gas, paint, or other

flammable materials are stored or used nearby.

l Be careful when grouping units on electrical circuits as to not

overload the wiring and cabling.

l Ensure that the power supply is regulated. An unstable power

supply can affect the operation of the magnetic lift columns (use of a UPS system is recommended.)

CAUTION: PERSONAL INJURY OR DAMAGE WITH CONSOLE USE To avoid personal injury or damage, it is IMPORTANT to

understand the following safety information below and contained in other sections of this guide.

The following general precautions apply to the console and must be observed by the operator:

l Do not place objects or position body parts between the work

surface and the top of the equipment tray. DAMAGE OR INJURY COULD RESULT WHEN THE WORK SURFACE IS LOWERED.

l Do not disable safety features, such as height adjustment, limit

switches, and so on. BYPASSING SUCH FEATURES OR GUARDS COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

l The top panels or rear door of the equipment tray may be

opened with the console in any position. The interior of the cabinet is illuminated when the door is opened or the covers lifted off, but this is to provide illumination for visual

inspection. To prevent any risk of electrical shock, you should disconnect power to the console when working inside the cabinet and use a flashlight or an external light source for illumination.

(9)

l If height adjustment of the lift column mechanism is necessary

(while working on any part of the consoles below the work surface), turn on power momentarily and keep hands and feet clear of all moving parts and electrical connections.

l The height and monitor adjustment features are designed for

safe operation. To avoid injury, the operator should ensure everyone remains clear of the moving work surface.

l The console is designed to support expected loads. To prevent

an overload, which could cause damage to the unit or result in injury:

l Do not sit or stand on the work surface or the attached slat

rail at any time.

l Do not place or drop heavy objects onto the work surface. l Do not move or lift the console by the work surface, as this

will cause damage to the lift columns.

CAUTION: GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR CONSOLES WITH MONITOR ARMS

Heavy loads on the monitor arms may damage the monitor arms and could break the monitor arm and/or fall off, causing

personal injury and damage to the equipment and consoles. The weight limits of each monitor arm should be observed and monitor arms should not be loaded with a heavier weight. The weight limits of each monitor arm is 18.1 kg (40 lbs). For monitors weighing more than 18 kg, the monitor weight can be distributed by using more than one monitor arm.

CAUTION: WIRE AND CABLE SAFETY

The Experion Orion Console has been designed to accommodate Experion hardware and software as well as other associated and auxiliary equipment and it is safe to operate the console with this equipment in the suggested layouts and configurations.

The internal cable management systems of cable trays, raceways, and cable paths should be followed and no other paths or routes should be used. Cables should not be run externally around the console. This can cause a number of health and safety risks for operators and potential damage to the equipment.

(10)

Each console has internal wiring and power distribution, but the external power supply should always be connected to the

terminal block located in the lower raceway by a competent, qualified electrician with the correct certification and permission. Special care should be taken when wiring in any other equipment and the following additional precautions should be observed:

l The console is fitted with two thermostatically controlled fans

in the equipment tray for ventilation. Do not cover or obscure the ventilation holes.

l When working inside the equipment tray, ensure the power is

disconnected and the fans are not operating to avoid the risk of tools, wires, body parts, or any other materials coming into contact with the rotating fan blades.

l For wiring equipment, use individual cables fitted with the

correct plugs, each plug connected to an individual socket on the power strip. Connecting multiple pieces of equipment to a single cable or plugged into a single socket using multi

adaptors is dangerous and can result in power overloads, short circuits, and electrical shocks.

l For data cables and connectors, only manufacturers

recommended cables should be used in single cables to avoid poor connections, ground loops and signal degradation. This could detrimentally affect the operation of the data

connections.

l The console is designed to have sufficient cable raceways and

capacity to accommodate separate data and electrical pathways is required.

ATTENTION: GENERAL PRECAUTIONS FOR CONSOLES WITH LIFT COLUMN MECHANISMS

The Experion Orion Console lift columns have been specifically designed to lift the specified equipment on the work surface and slat rail. Please note that the system is not designed to lift substantial additional loads such as a person sitting or standing on the work surface or slat rail or an additional piece of

Placing the Experion Orion Console into

position

Considerations for placing the Experion Orion Console and any auxiliary units into position. Once the console is in position, you will need to level the console.

(19)

Once you have determined the location and placed the Experion Orion Console into the final position, you will need to level the Experion Orion Console. Contained in the Experion Orion Console toolkit is a spirit level and a spanner for adjusting the leveling bolts located on the bottom of the console feet.

Space considerations

The entry door for the equipment tray is located at the rear of the Experion Orion Console. Once the console has been installed, you will need access to this entry door to install and maintain equipment contained in the equipment tray. Therefore, you need to allow for adequate space between any wall or barrier that is located behind the console and the rear of the console.

3. With the work surface attached, slide the auxiliary unit next to the console and align the back of the auxiliary unit with the console equipment storage. Leave a 1/8” (0.125 cm) gap between the console and the auxiliary unit.

(34)

4. Adjust the auxiliary unit levelers so that the top of the unit is flush with the console equipment storage.

5. When the two surfaces are level, use the hex driver to loosen the bolts on the side panel bracket (shown below in red) and slide the bracket up to be in contact with the underside of the console.

(35)

6. Tighten the bolts to fix the bracket to the side panel and screw a tech screw into each of the three holes in the top of the bracket to secure it to the console.

7. Open the console lower raceway and you will find a power cable labeledRAUXor LAUXmeaning left or right side of the console. 8. Remove the front panes of the auxiliary unit. Feed the cable

through the console foot and into the auxiliary. Pull the cable up and behind the frame and fan, and then plug into the power bar, as shown below in green.

ORION CONSOLE

Install and configure equipment in an Experion Orion Console.

In this section:

(38)

Installing hardware within the equipment tray

Considerations when installing hardware within the equipment tray. Hardware, such as workstations and thin clients, are installed in the lower portion of the equipment tray. Located above any installed hardware, in the upper portion of the equipment tray, are the cable trays, which can be used for securing excess cable lengths.

When installing a workstation from the equipment tray door, the rear of the workstation should be positioned towards the front of the console, and the front of the workstation should be positioned towards the rear of the console. This ensures that most cable

connections at the rear of the workstation are as close as possible to the power strip and cable tray located in the equipment tray.

When installing thin clients, it is strongly recommended that you use the mounting kit supplied. This will ensure that additional spacing is provided for the thin client, which requires additional ventilation so as not to overheat. Failure to use the mounting kit could potentially lead to equipment failure.

Cleaning the Experion Orion Console

Honeywell recommends cleaning the Experion Orion Console using recommended cleaning products.

Three Vileda NanoTech microfiber cloths are supplied with each console. Additional cloths can be ordered from local distributors. If you need assistance, contact your local Honeywell representative. The recommended Vileda NanoTech microfiber cloths have nano particles of silver embedded within the microfiber structure. These cloths, when dampened with plain water will clean greasy marks, fingerprints, and dust from the alarm light panels and other console components. When the silver gets in direct contact with bacteria and germs, it kills them efficiently (99.9% bacteria or germs removal when wiping surfaces - certified by BMA), preventing bacterial growth and build-up. There is no growth of bacteria or germs on the cloths and the effect does not fade away when the cloths are washed.

Cleaning the Alarm Panel

Aerosol or chemical cleaners should never be used on the acrylic alarms panels as they will leave unsightly marks and scratches that may not be able to be removed. Spray and aerosol may damage nearby electronic monitors or other sensitive equipment on the

consoles. Chemical cleaners may damage and discolor the acrylic and its special abrasion resistant coating.

Only lint-free, water-dampened, microfiber cloths should be used for cleaning the acrylic alarm light panels. Paper towels, household dusters, and other cloths are likely to scratch the surface and may leave fiber residue. Honeywell recommends only using microfiber cloths with embedded nano particles of silver for cleaning the acrylic alarm light panels. After extensive testing, the recommended cloths provide the best results for removing grease, fingerprints, and dirt from the alarm light panel without creating smudges or scratches.

Cleaning the monitors

The monitor manufacturer’s instructions should be followed when cleaning monitors on the consoles. In many cases, the Honeywell

(41)

Cleaning the work surface

The Honeywell recommended microfiber cloths used for cleaning the acrylic alarm light panel can also be used for cleaning the work surface, as well as removing bacteria. For multi-user, multi-shift consoles in a 24/7 control room, Honeywell recommends that the work surface and operator equipment placed on the work surface be wiped down between each shift to remove smudges, dirt, and bacteria. Experion Orion Console High Pressure Laminate (HPL) work surfaces can withstand sustained temperatures up to 105°C (225°F). However, prolonged or extreme heat might cause discoloring. Although minor cuts and scratches can be repaired, deep cuts and cracks will require the service of a professional. Chemicals and acids should be not be used for routine cleaning. If any of these items come in contact with the work surface, wipe them up at once. Some of these items, when left on the surface, may cause discoloring, which can be difficult to remove.

Item Cleaning technique

Spills and

stains Most everyday spills can be removed with the cleaning techniques listed. Some stains, however, such as food dye, tea, and fruit drinks, may require a bit more aggressive cleaning. These common stains can be removed with a cloth dampened with a small amount of full-strength bleach (bleach should only come in contact with the surface for 2 to 5 minutes) followed by a wipe down with a water dampened cloth.

While your work surface will not burn, if a lighted cigarette were to come in contact with it, it could leave a nicotine stain or a scorch mark which cannot be removed.

Scratches The HPL work surface is highly durable and should not scratch easily. Deep scratches are difficult to remove without the assistance of a professional. Although highly durable, the work surface must never be treated with products containing abrasive substances such as abrasive sponges, steel wool or sand paper.

Severe

damage Should your HPL work surface sustain a deep gouge, fracture, crack, orany other severe damage, a professional fabricator may be able to repair your work surface.

Cleaning other parts of the Orion Console

Item Cleaning technique

Equipment tray The acrylic edging surrounding the equipment tray requires similar cleaning to the acrylic alarm light panel. No other special cleaning fluids or materials are required for other parts of the console apart from dusting the surfaces and a regular wipe down. Sprays and aerosols should always be avoided and not used on the console or near any of the electronic equipment in or on the console.

The same micro-fiber cloths can be used for acrylic edging and wiping down the console to remove dust and dirt.

Abrasive cleaning liquids and scourers should not be used on any of the parts of the console. Regular dusting and/or

vacuuming of all surfaces is recommended to help maintain their beauty and longevity.

Painted surfaces Use a soft damp cloth (not wet) for general cleaning purposes. If stains are present, use a mild soap.

The paint used on the console is an HP scratch resistant powder coat, however the scratch resistance is only designed to maintain the paint and delay the signs of normal wear and tear. Avoid using any other cleaning fluid or abrasive

materials which may scratch the powder coat. Lift columns If an actuator becomes dirty it should be cleaned

immediately to prevent the accumulation of residues. However it is an electrical component, and aerosols sprays and liquids should not be used.

Wipe the column with a damp cloth and water. If necessary a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on a cloth can be used. Ensure that washing water with chemical additives is pH-neutral. Excessively acidic or alkaline water can permanently damage the columns.

Maintaining Experion Orion Console

components

Maintain Experion Orion Console components, such as monitor arms and supporting brackets.

Item Description

Lift

columns ATTENTION: The lift columns contain no user serviceable parts. Do not attempt to service them. Do not apply any lubricates to them.

Monitor

arms If the monitor tilt position is not be being retained, you may need tocheck and tighten the screws located on the monitor arm. If the monitor depth and angle is not being retained, the springs in the monitor arms may be broken or exceeded their serviceable lift span. You may need to order replacement monitor arms.

Supporting

brackets Once a month, you should check the tightness of the screws on thesupporting brackets located within the equipment tray. If required, tighten these screws.

Turning off and turning on power to the lift

columns

Turn off and then turn on power to the lift columns to reset them.

To reset the lift columns

1. In the lower raceway, locate and remove the power cable from the lift column control.

2. Wait 5 seconds.

3. Insert the power cable back into the lift column control.

CAUTION: If you need to reset the lift columns, the operator should never stay seated with their legs underneath the work surface, as the columns may return to their lowest position and could trap their legs between the chair and the work surface. There is a safety cut-out mechanism to

(44)

prevent this, but that should be seen as a “LAST RESORT” safety device.

Next steps

If you had preset heights stored in the work surface lift control memory, you will need to store these preset heights again. For more information, see "Setting preset heights for the work surface" on page 29.

Recalibrating the lift columns

If there is a power outage at your facility, the lift columns may need to be recalibrated.

If the lift columns need to be reset, the operator should never stay seated with their legs underneath the work surface, as the columns may return to their lowest position and could trap the operator’s legs between the chair and the work surface. There is a safety cut-out mechanism to prevent this, but that should be seen as a “LAST RESORT” safety device.

Prerequisites
