THE USES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN VARIOUS FIELDS

1.0 INTRODUCTION

With the rapid development of Information Technology and an awareness of the importance of the role of IT, our country, Malaysia has taken the opportunity to make the industry of Information Technology as the engine of economic country growth. Thus on August 11, 1996 during inaugurated of the Multimedia Asia 96 trial in PWTC Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has announced Multimedia Super Corridor Project (or simply the Multimedia Super Corridor MSC) which is the Malaysian agenda to achieve the vision 2020 and the main strategies to achieve competitive advantage in the knowledge-based economy. This announcement demonstrates that Malaysia was heading towards the world of multimedia and at the same time providing the country to faced the IT era.

MSC involves three giant projects, namely Putra Jaya, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), and Kuala Lumpur's National Airport (KLIA). MSC will be an area that has the perfect infrastructure for multimedia applications electronically. Along with the technological advances, it is brings the influence in all aspects of life, both in the field of Education, Manufacturing, Telecommunication, Banking.

Based on explanation above, here I will discuss more about Malaysia's use of IT in some of these aspects as well as how the challenges and future direction in the context of IT. 2.0 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES IN VARIOUS FIELDS

Information for the current modern era is a very important thing. This is as a result of increasingly diverse and complex human activity in various sectors of life. With increasing discoveries in the field of technology, especially IT, to make the technology as a bridge that is capable to connecting millions of people in the world in getting the information they need. IT has been proven to help solve the problem often encountered many people, especially regarding to the factor of human foibles. Along with the advancement of IT, it plays a role in many different areas :

2.1 Education

Malaysian government's efforts to introduce and expand the use of IT in education sector has long been planned as a long term strategy. This has been applied in various stages in several ways to suit the target audience. As a general strategy, equipping schools with IT infrastructure for administration and services is the first step. With these efforts, the spread of information will become more fluent, school management will be more organized and transparent. Everything that can be perceived benefits is when students register for the tests, examinations and get the results of tests.

The benefits that can be expected of students who seek to enter the University, the selection process and the results of the election of the student. All of it has can be done online at the present time. In university and College institution, the use of IT has been far more widespread. The reason is that the number of students involved is much smaller than the public education sector. The key is that the facilities IT has enabled some level of bureaucracy in the education sector is not only the paperless, but also much more quickly.

Other strategies involve the use of IT is teaching and learning. Its implementation was slow in addition to consuming time and shopping is great because it involves infrastructure, skilled workforce, contents and teaching materials, among many others. In implementing it, teachers are trained to be skilled in using IT. The effort

may begin by forming a collection of students who were then given exercises IT in order to use IT for learning. Printed and digital learning materials necessary are provided and the user IT was built for practical learning. In the context of this Government was forced to make multiple attempts at a typical, or special pilot project, in all ranks: from lower school to the University.

The smart school project, or Smart School Project (SSP), is another example of the Special trial project mentioned above. The concept of SSP not only project that was the intention IT-oriented, but also wishes to create unity among students of various ethnic groups. Who would like to do is combine the Vision School concept of the smart school concept, to enable students of all races is placed under the same roof. They will be given the facilities IT properly up to get in institutions of higher learning, in or outside the country. All the time the education, they will be given an opportunity that opens wide to interact so as to foster more permanent.

Meanwhile, at the Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA), a two-pronged measure was opened. In the early stages, IT has facilities available to meet the needs of management and administrative services to create a 'paperless', or paperless administration. The main obstacles in this effort was the quality of the infrastructure. It is often broken and does not work. In addition, the literacy rate IT low among academic staff. Their skills are limited in IT has been directly limit their role as catalyst was expected in the use of IT to enhance the learning of students.

However, IT has been used to learning not only in the context of giving lectures at the University, but also to distance courses offered to students outside the campus.

Multimedia University of Malaysia are examples of higher education institutions that have used IT in full in the Administration, services and learning.

Other University is trying to combine traditional pedagogy and learning with digital learning pedagogy and technique to get going with fully digital learning space. Giving rise to the problem is the ability of students to use IT in full to learning. Because they came from varying economic backgrounds, particularly from rural areas, especially from poor families, many students still blind to IT, or half literate. They failed to take advantage of IT every time. That lucky is the students who grew up in the city or full boarding school and frequently visited Internet cafes.

2.2 Manufacturing

2.2.1 The Automotive Industry

Car maker industry was among the first to use computer control robot in car manufacturing. Robot control will govern all car manufacturing process, for example in car windscreens. In the past at the factory car, the car maker built require many employees to complete the car. The quality of cars produced is less satisfying and takes a long time to build a car. Now, with the availability of IT, cars manufactured by using control robots to replace employees (Figure 2). The Robot can work in a longer time without stop compared to men should rest intervals. With the use of a little robot was the number of workers needed. The works are neater and a car can be built in a shorter time.

By using the program CAD (Computer Aided Design), the design of cars, airplanes and so forth can be done more easily, quickly, and accurately (Figure 3). It is also used in food manufacturers to make the process of creating and packaging goods automatically. This makes the production and packaging process quick and clean.

2.2.2 Film

Industry

All those

effects in the world of acting, animation, and editing of the film all on record with an electronic device which is connected to the computer. Animation was also developed using the animations created with computer applications. As an example of Hollywood films entitled TITANIC was actually extra animation to illustrate the ship sinking and the broken giant, that it seems to be as similar to real events.

2.2.3 Record Industry

To produce a good sound recording settings and modifications need to be sound with the computer media, as well as the print of its songs also help with computer system. IT also speed up international relations. The world seems to have become depressed by the existence of IT. We are able to contact anyone in the entire world. This turned out once to strengthen the expression of a world without borders. We are able to connect with anyone whether in chat, e-mail, Short Message System (SMS), Skype and others. We can also get in touch with anyone around the world using mobile phones.

Not only that, the current developments taking place around the world could also immediately followed such as live concerts of popular artists, world football matches and the latest news release. The World Cup events, conferences, etc. which took place in a country like Brazil, in Japan or in the United States can be transmitted throughout the world directly. This broadcast can be watched via the Internet and Astro, telephone, facsimile, television, and video conference depends on the ICT to enable us to enjoy the blessings of this. The Internet and laptops also work through the art technology this. It is opening a path that ICT to the glorious future.

All the Government and private sectors accelerates through it's progress. This situation not only saves time, but also energy, money the Government and the people themselves.

The country's public and private sectors become more quickly and efficiently. Therefore, Malaysia will more quickly achieve its vision and create a power in the world arena. As it analogy, the document management application, and so on to be accurate and efficient.

2.3.3 Country Security

IT has also been a significant contributor in maintaining the peace and security of the country. The increasingly rampant criminal cases in Malaysia

to overcome with the help of IT. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) widely used and placed in the areas such as banks, casinos, airports, airfield, and the supermarket.

The CCTV system is the use of video cameras to send a signal to certain places. The signal has been sent not sent openly, this is in contrast with television. CCTV is used to monitor the safety of a specific place only.

Now, with the introduction of E-Commerce, online transaction service then can be applied. With the availability of ATM, then with the use of the internet makes it easy to conduct banking services to its customers through INTERNET BANKING and SMS BANKING.

Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT)

is one example of innovation

from the use of the fundamental internet technologies in the Technology Information System (TSI) in the field of banking. Examples of products include venues of EFT Cash Self-service (ATM), electronic home banking (commonly referred to as internet banking), and money transfer network.

2.4.1 Internet Banking

The services provided to the customer in the form of internet banking bill payment transactions, account information, transfer funds between accounts, the latest information about interest rates and the exchange rate of foreign currency, administration of Personal Identification Number (PIN), addresses or account card, personal data and others, except taking money or deposit money. Due to money making the ATM service and still require remittance of money still need help bank branches. This internet banking practice will obviously change the strategy of the bank in this endeavor. At least there's a new factor that could affect the assessment of a bank to open a new branch or add ATM. Internet banking allows the client to make payment-payment online. Internet banking also provides the accommodation activities of banking through computer networks anytime and anywhere with fast, easy and safe because it is supported by a strong security system. It is useful to ensure the security and confidentiality of your data and transactions made by the customer. In addition, with the internet banking, the bank can increase

In the

development of banking technology such as internet banking, the bank should pay attention to the security aspect of customer protection in particular as it relates to customer privacy. There are four online services security, i.e. the customer connection security, data security, security, transaction server connection, network security and information system from the server. In addition, aspects of delivery of banking product information should be presented proportionally, meaning that the bank not only inform the superiority or specificity of the product, but also the security system the use of products offered. Security internet banking system usage in the form of a firewall for access restrictions. Layered security is, of course, together with security that belongs to every customer in the form of user identification (user ID) and PIN. Coupled with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 with 128 bit encryption system. The seat by the bank adapted to international standards.

3.0 CONCLUSION

Since established its Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) which was introduced by the former Prime Minister of the fourth, Tun Dr Mahatir Mohamad, the many benefits gained by our country. It is a Government plan toward sophisticated information technology, which also aims to attract companies with the interim Government as well as other

facilities such as high-speed internet. With this project, it will launch more technology in the employment and the existence of this project will reduce unemployment in the country. The project will open up job opportunities in our country.

With the availability of technology that was developed with the Government, it is indeed unable to improve the living standards of society in terms of Education, Manufacturing, Telecommunication, and Banking. In line with the information technology provide a positive impact in terms of improving the quality of life, foster and strengthen the relationship between humans, human as well as advancing education protection. Humans also need to continue to strive to develop technology so that the living standards of the community growing and thriving.

In addition, the development of Information Technology has made communication and relationships between people easily and quickly. The use of technology allows a wide range of information in digital form and can be distributed as fast as lightning. In addition, the relationship between people can be drawn although they communicate from the distance. In broadcasting, incidents and events that occur in other countries can be watched directly via satellite with continuously. This is to increase the level of knowledge and the culture of a society in line with the development of technology.

Information technology is the heart of the development of society and the nation to improve the standard of living that is more perfect. The development of increasingly sophisticated technologies has changed the way of human life and help the country to improve the standard of living of a society.

Malaysia has managed to increase the content of information and knowledge in all sectors of the economy and strive to ensure that all groups of society including rural communities benefit from IT. In the move towards a knowledge-based society, Malaysia will take advantage of network environment in line with the expansion of the MSC next to strengthen IT as new sources of growth and the generation of wealth and position Malaysia as a hub for multimedia destination global competitive.
