REAMERS AND WIPERS

Conditioning the Wellbore

Wellbores are not always as smooth as they need to be which is critical for tripping in and out of the hole, conducting wireline openhole logging, and running casing.

The NOV Downhole DrillTough Roller Reamers function as a secondary cutting structure to maintain a full gauge hole. This reduces torque and drag, increases the rate of penetration, and overall operational efficiency. Furthermore, a roller reamer stabilizes the bottom hole assembly (BHA) which keeps the drillpipe off the borehole wall. This reduces vibration, drillpipe whirl, and wellbore tortuousity; moreover, the stabilization maintains drilling trajectory whether straight or directional. The NOV Downhole DrillPro Wipers feature a cutting structure that is fixed or rotates with the drillpipe. This cutting structure conditions the wellbore by relieving ledges and keyseats and removes abrupt doglegs while tripping in and out of the hole or while drilling.

Slant Blade Roller Reamer

The DrillTough Slant Blade Roller Reamer is engineered to dress the wellbore in a sliding drilling operation. The cutters are diagonal to the axis of the tool enabling them to ream with the movement of the drillstring. The patented cutter geometry permits wellbore conditioning while tripping in and out of the hole. This tool is key to any directional drilling BHA as it removes keyseats, ledges, and doglegs while eliminating wellbore tortuousity and drag.

REAMERS AND WIPERS

Straight Blade Roller Reamer

Placed strategically within the BHA, the DrillTough Straight Blade Roller Reamer conditions the wellbore to reduce drillstring torque and drag, making it ideal for straight hole drilling in difficult conditions.

DrillTough Straight Blade Roller Reamers feature sealed bearing cutters. The sealed bearings provide a low friction, oil lubricated environment between the pin and the cutter. This design prevents drilling fluids from compromising the life of the tool, in turn increasing operational efficiency.

NOV Downhole offers a Near Bit version of the DrillTough Straight Blade Roller Reamer.

(6)

Stabilized Roller Reamer

A combination of a straight blade roller reamer and an integral blade stabilizer in one tool, the DrillTough Stabilized Roller Reamer is used to condition the wellbore and reduce drillstring torque and drag in wellbores that have the tendency to deviate.

The Stabilized Roller Reamer is typically run higher up in the BHA and is particularly effective in directional wells. These reamers are ideal for maintaining a full gauge hole while keeping the drillpipe away from the wall.

NOV Downhole offers various stabilizer spiral geometry and hard facing options to maximize the durability of the blades.

REAMERS AND WIPERS

The DrillTough Near Bit Roller Reamer, similar to a Straight Blade Roller Reamer, is compact in design allowing effective placement directly above the bit. Its primary purpose is to function as a secondary cutting structure to the drill bit to ensure a full gauge wellbore in hard and abrasive formations.

This tool is a critical component of the BHA in straight and vertical drilling applications.

(8)

Tapered Blade Wiper

Simple, tough, and extremely effective, the DrillPro Tapered Blade Wiper should be considered standard BHA equipment for the removal of ledges and abrupt doglegs created while drilling.

The Tapered Blade Wiper’s conventional design, durable cutting structure, and long sweeping blades makes it effective at removing keyseats encountered while tripping in and out of the hole.

Features

Reamer sleeve does not rotate while drilling Single and double clutch reamer sleeve options Rough tungsten carbide outer diameter

Benefits

Efficient removal of keyseats

Allows for tripping in and out with ease Minimizes damage to the borehole wall

Keyseat Wiper

A keyseat is a slot formed by drillpipe cutting a groove into the borehole wall. This typically occurs in the hump of doglegs, in undetected ledges near washouts, or where sharp directional changes occur. Keyseats are the primary cause of mechanical sticking. When tripping out of the hole and as the drillpipe passes through the slot, larger diameter components become wedged into the keyseat.

The DrillPro Keyseat Wiper removes keyseats in the wellbore. The tool possesses an aggressive cutting structure composed of crushed tungsten carbide which is typically dressed ¼ to ½ inches greater than the maximum outer diameter of the drill collars used in the BHA.

The wiper is composed of a mandrel and a free sliding / rotating sleeve reamer. The reamer sleeve is not engaged until it hits an obstruction and engages with the clutch. Once the sleeve has engaged the clutch, the reamer sleeve rotates with the drillstring to wipe away the keyseat.
