Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU) is located in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province in North-East China. Shenyang city is a historical city with 7200 years and also a modern city of prominent heavy industries. Regarded as the “Aviation City” in China, Shenyang is the home to 10 manufacturing companies in aeronautics and astronautics, 4 aeronautical research institutes and 1 aerospace university. The world leaders in aeronautics such as Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier and Cessna have opened their manufacturing sites in Shenyang. In addition, the city also enjoys the establishment of other industries requiring advanced technologies including, but not limited to automotive (BMW) and chemical industry.
Founded in 1952, SAU is situated in the center of “Northern College Town” of Shenyang. The campus occupies a magnificent landscape of 1,200,000 square meters, with building areas of 600,000 square meters. The first airplane, designed and made by the joint effort of SAU students and teachers took off to the sky as early as 1958. The university currently enrolls 20,000 students and has a staff of 1600, of which 800 are academic teachers. SAU has a total of 113 professors and 271 associate professors. With a focus on aeronautical and astronautical disciplines, SAU’s scope is enlarged with a curriculum covering such areas as science, liberal arts and management, etc. The university

offers 43 disciplines for undergraduate studies and 20 for master degrees. On campus, there are more than 20 aircrafts and a hundred of research labs. The engineering practice center is of national standard. SAU is proud of its unique helicopter maintenance centre in China. SAU will soon be authorized to issue license for fixed-wing aircraft maintenance.
International Education remains a major goal of SAU. There are totally 220 international students from over 20 countries studying on the campus for their Bachelor and Master Degrees in English medium or Chinese medium and the Chinese language program. The programs offered in English medium for bachelors degree are Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science and International Business; for masters degree program, we offer Aeronautical Engineering
and Enterprises Management.
At the present, SAU has established co-operation with many companies such as Shenyang Liming Aero-Engine Group Corporation and AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, etc. SAU has also developed a network of 50 partners to provide its students with abundant opportunities for practical training.

SAU International Education
SAU attaches great importance to international education and has made it an important part in the development strategy of the university. In 2003, SAU has set up a plan of developing short and medium term programs for international students and has determined concrete measures for implementation. At present, SAU has built its educational structure with students for bachelor/ master degree, as well as for Chinese language. In 2009, SAU was awarded by Liaoning Provincial Department of Education the “Outstanding University for International Education”. Today, 220 students from over 20 countries are studying in the university.
SAU’s unique and original specialties in aeronautics and astronautics constitute the essential base for attracting more students. Since 2006, the university has been focusing on its aeronautical characteristics and through learning from other universities’ advanced experiences, has optimized some of its aeronautical specialties and developed education in English medium for international students’ degree study, mainly in aeronautics.
In the past 5 years, SAU has successfully started offering courses in English medium in 6 programs
for international students:Aeronautical Engineering (Aircraft manufacturing Engineering), Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, International Commerce and Trade, Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering (master Degree) and Business Management (master Degree). Among them, the rate of students for degree study (bachelor and master) is as high as 90% for specialties such as Aeronautical Engineering (Aircraft manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering), Mechanical and Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications.
Along with attracting individual students coming for degree study, SAU has also been putting efforts for cooperation with foreign universities. It has signed agreements with 58 universities from over 20 countries such as France, Russia, Japan, Korea, Cambodia and Bangladesh for students and teachers exchange programs. Since 2007, SAU has received 5 groups of totally 100 French students from IPSA (French Polytechnic Institute) for master degree in Aerospace Propulsion Theory and Engineering.
