The University of Tasmania is highly placed in all four major international rankings:

• 291 and joint tenth among Australian universities in The 2015 Times Higher Education (THE) world university rankings; • 379 in the QS rankings (2015/2016), including top 100

rankings for Earth and Marine Sciences, top 150 for Agriculture and Forestry and Sociology and top 200 for Geography, Environmental Science and Law;

• 305 in the 2015 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU); and

• 366 in US News (2016), including 76 in Plant and animal Science, 84 in Geosciences and 136 in Environment/Ecology. The 2016 Good Universities’ Guide awarded us with a five star rating for research intensity and student retention placing us amongst the best in Australia.

2. Graduate Outcomes

In the Graduate Salaries Survey 2014, the University of Tasmania has excelled again with an average graduate salary of $ $50,289, placing it within the Top 20 of Australian universities3. In a number of discipline areas (pharmacy, marine engineering, agricultural science and others) our graduates achieve near 100% employment outcomes. Internships and work integrated learning are built into many courses and our lecturers have real-world experience in the subjects they teach bringing strong connections with local and national industry and opportunities for practical learning and research opportunities.

With a curriculum focused on developing multidisciplinary knowledge and skills, as well as global perspective and social responsibility, our graduates are equipped and inspired to respond to opportunities and challenges in an ever changing world.

3. Competitive fees and living costs

Studying with us is also a financially sound choice. Although we are a top Australian university, our tuition fees are significantly lower than comparable mainland universities. Hobart and Launceston are the most affordable university cities ‘down under’4 and studying with us means less financial pressure allowing you to focus on your studies and experience the unique lifestyle and environment Tasmania offers.

Why study at the

University of Tasmania?

4. Accessible, Comprehensive Scholarships

We know that many people applying to University have not yet realised their potential and that with the right support and environment good students can become great graduates and researchers. All applicants to UTAS are automatically assessed for our flagship Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) with approx. one quarter of course work students securing this generous 25% scholarship for the duration of their degree5. We also offer 10% scholarships to siblings of previous UTAS students and students who transition from foundation studies to degree or from Undergraduate to postgraduate study. There is also a range of faculty specific scholarships and once enrolled for one semester, international students have access to a wide range of UTAS scholarship and prizes.

5. English language outcomes

An overwhelmingly English speaking environment both on and off campus where you can improve your English, academic performance and employability and career prospects.

6. Access to all the benefits of regional living and study

In an increasingly overpopulated, polluted planet clean green Tasmania is fast becoming the ‘coolest destination in Australia.’ The landscape is stunning (40% of the state is national parks), the climate temperate – not too hot or too cold, cities are compact and vibrant and there is no pollution and overcrowding. And students will find a welcoming community and a State government that actively encourages international students, skilled migrants and visitors to Tasmania.

Access is no problem. Students can get to Tasmania from Melbourne (1 hour flying time), Sydney (1.5 hours flying time) or Brisbane (2.5 hours flying time) using one of five budget and full service airlines that service the state.

Whether you are looking for an affordable degree from a highly ranked institution or want to

study in a beautiful, safe environment where you can master your English language skills there

are many reasons to choose study at the University of Tasmania.

Entry Requirements – Academic

Admission to undergraduate courses at UTAS requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia and our website lists countries and their academic qualifications that meet the University’s minimum entry requirements. Academic entry requirements vary between courses and at undergraduate level are assessed using the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score. Some courses have additional prerequisites (i.e. medicine – surgery) and applicants applying for programs with a high ATAR scores like Pharmacy, Medicine, combined Law, etc, would need higher entry marks.

Students who need to upgrade their academic skills to meet entry requirements for an undergraduate degree can enrol in the University’s Foundation Studies Program (FSP). Successful completion of FSP gives direct entry to all undergraduate degree courses.

Most postgraduate Masters Courses require an Australian bachelor degree or equivalent, which for some courses (such as engineering or computing) will need to be in an approved or relevant discipline. Alternative entry pathways such as periods of relevant work experience are also available for some courses.

Entry Requirements – English

For those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL or other recognised English language test must be provided. Alternatively, applicants can provide evidence that English has been the sole medium of instruction and examination in their most recent studies, for a minimum of 2 years, and within the last 24 months. Academic transcripts and a letter from your institution will be required. Those applicants who are nationals of and currently residing in a country where English is the official language, may be exempt from the 2 year validity period.
