In 2012 the optimization of the SPbSPU structure started to improve the quality of education in the framework of integrated groups directions /
specialties
General objective of restructuring – creating structures
and units with high research and education potential,
amalgamation of departments with similar subjects, arising prestige of particular study areas, optimization of
management procedure, ranging units of the similar size.
In 2007 the modernization of SPbSPU started in Innovative educational program (InEP) of
SPbSPU (2007-2008), than in Development Program of SPbSPU for the period 2010-2019 as the National Research University (NRU) by establishing 2 innovative research institutes in SPbSPU
• Before restructuring 25 faculty – after 12 research and educational Institutes
• Before restructuring 150 departments – after 117 departments
• Joint Science and Technology Institute (JSTI),
including 5 main Research & Technology complexes • 200 research laboratories and centres
• 30 research-and-education centres
• 40 small sized enterprises, 13 of which were founded
