By Claude Avary
This books shows the latter-day Conan series at its lowest ebb, with Green writing almost on auto-pilot. I don't even think he knows what's going on in the story, and I certainly don't care.

By Jay
It's as if Roland Green had a deadline and just slapped something together to create this book. Although never a Conan pasticheur on the same level as Karl Edward Wagner or John Maddox Roberts, Green could at least be readable at times. Conan the Valiant, his first entry in the series, was decently paced and provided a worthwhile foil for Conan in Raihna. Conan the Relentless was a step down from that but was again passable. Conan and the Gods of the Mountain had some missteps but was overall enjoyable as Conan and Valeria trekked across Hyborian Africa following the destruction of the inhabitants of Xuchotl. Conan the Guardian, Conan at the Demon's Gate, and Conan and the Death Lord of Thanza all were heavily flawed but nonetheless provided occasional interesting moments.
This doesn't even do that. Dullness is not something I should have to associate with a story about Conan the Cimmerian, but I can think of no better word to describe this novel. It's also annoyingly soap operatic, especially with the principal villains, both of whom were flat and dull. The action was not at all worthwhile either.
Fast shipping, book was as described.
