Senior Happenings

Dedicated to Tolland’s Senior Citizens

Hi Folks!!

I’d like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year. With each new year, may you be filled with love, joy and peace.

I’d like to draw your attention to the Firemen’s Social last month. Each year it just gets better and better. Eighty-five (85) of you showed up to participate in this wonderful program. The decorations, the gifts, the fabulous meal prepared by the volunteers – just outstanding!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Tolland Volunteer Fire Department – we love you. (FYI, they peeled 75 pounds of potatoes and 50 pounds of butternut squash. Can you imagine!)

Our latest program, Ole Tolland Jammies (TJ’s) have been meeting this past month every Monday afternoon. We even have our own “groupies” that faithful-ly come and listen. We are encouraging anyone who used to play an instrument, and has put it down, to pick it back up, and come play with us. What a blast! If you don’t play, but love to sing, come on over. If you can’t play or sing but love music, come listen...and clap. Thanks to an anonymous donor, we have a brand new microphone/stand to be used by the musicians. We so appreciate that gift. Speaking of which, the same donor generously paid for December’s Holiday Birthday party. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

As a reminder, any of the Birthday Parties will be held on the last Thursday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

Starting January, we will continue to have our Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar Screening program once a month. However, the time allotted will be changed to 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

In closing, the Town of Tolland offers a lot of programs for seniors. Please take advantage of them. Many programs offered here create such community and new friendships. But there are also many programs and benefits that Rebecca could tell you about as well. Come visit us.

Your Friend,

Fran

How sad we were to hear of the passing of Bill Tripp.

Bill had so many friends just because of who he was.

He was always fun, helpful … just being Bill. He

volunteered many times in the kitchen doing whatever

he could do to help. We will miss his smile and great

humor. To his wife Gerri, and all the family and friends,

you have our deepest sympathy and prayers.

From the Desk of Rebecca…

Happy January 2018 – May it be a joy filled year!

Well, we survived another Open Enrollment period, and are heading into 2018 with yet more changes to come. I will try to keep you all informed as to what these changes will be. Right now things are unsettled, so hang in there.

We had a wonderful response from the Tolland community to our Care & Share program. So many of you donated food and money to help supplement food for our clients. I thank you. November and December are such “giving” months. Our pantry shelves are stocked. Which brings to mind my volunteers who make it so appealing and efficient in the pantry! Helen and Joan, what would I do without you? You are tireless in your efforts to keep things fresh and tidy and stacked so neatly. Thank you so much!

Please feel free in the coming months to ask me what needs we may have for pantry. I always have an on-going list of most needed non-perishables, as items go out as quickly as they come in. Every little bit helps. Perhaps the next time you see the sign “buy one get two free” you could bring the “two” here? Just a thought. Again, thank you to our com-munity for being so thoughtful and generous in so many ways.

From the Heart of Rebecca…

A Happy and Healthy New Year to you all. Keep those New Year’s resolutions that you make. Continue to spread good cheer and peace throughout the world. Volunteer. Send cards and notes to people who are lost or grieving and lift them up. Each one, reach one. Peace to All,

Rebecca
