Kuala Lumpur

Your Choice Destination

Affectionately known as “KL” by the Malaysians, Kuala Lumpur is beyond doubt a melting pot of architectural monuments as well as cultures.

From its humble beginning as a muddy mining town, the city today is hardly recognisable from the time Malaysia gained its independence in 1957. The marriage of British colonial architecture with Moorish themes and that of modern skyscrapers produced a truly remarkable and seamless landscape of interesting sights with an estimated population of 1.6 million people and is one of the most successful cities in South East Asia and is comparable to Hong Kong and Singapore.

Kuala Lumpur certainly has a good mix of attractions, entertainment, historical monuments and deluxe shopping centres, bazaars, night markets offer an irresistible choice of local collectibles as well as international labels to justify a few days stay in the city before visiting the other parts of the country.

Day 2 – KL Culture & Food Discovery

1500hrs – KL Culture & Food Discovery

We begin at the most famous and oldest mosque in KL, the Jamek Mosque. Built on the confluence of the Klang & Gombak rivers, this site was where the earliest settlers called home back in the 19th century. Sample & witness the making of roti canai (a

type of flatbread) and teh tarik (literally, ‘pulled tea’, a frothy tea concoction) at a nearby shop before visiting the local street stalls along a narrow lane to learn about traditional Malay remedies, outfits and food such as kuih (local cakes) and keropok lekor (fish paste snacks).

A short walk away is ‘Little India’, where we will stop at one of the shops to get a lesson in henna drawing and sarree wearing, two traditional customs still practice today in the Malaysian Indian community. A sumptuous banana leaf rice meal then awaits you.

Next, be treated to an Artisan Chinese Tea ceremony in an exquisite tea house. Garner tips on buying the various teas and be educated with techniques of brewing, drinking and gaining more insight to the whole tea culture. We end our experience with a walk through one of KL’s oldest wet markets to soak in the sights and ‘smells’ of local life

Day 2 – Dinner at Bijan Bar & Restaurant

Bijan (bee-jahn) means Malay for sesame or a modern

restaurant that specializes in fine Malay cuisine. The

Bijan experience is modern in presentation yet

wholesome in flavour. Traditional Malay cuisine is taken

out of hawker stalls and buffet lines, and served against a

lush backdrop. Modern in its surroundings with distinctive

Asian accents, Bijan is warm, yet chic; intimate yet

spacious.
