ATTIVITA’ DI RICERCA /RESEARCH
ACTIVITIES
Attuali campi di ricerca /
Research sectors Study of cellular mechanisms acting in marine microalgae to regulate the processes of absorption, accumulation and toxicity of heavy metals. Development of algal bioassays for the assessment of metal pollution in seawater and sediments, based on the use of detoxification mechanisms, such as the synthesis of glutathione-related peptides (phytochelatins) in marine microalgae.
Detoxification mechanisms based on the variation of non-protein thiols and antioxidant enzymatic systems in higher plants, as part of a multidisciplinary research aimed at phytoremediation of soils polluted by heavy metals.
Recenti attività scientifiche/
Recent Scientific Activities. Beginning of a study regarding the response of microalgae to metal-based nanoparticles as a tool for ecotoxicological risk assessment.
Study of detoxification mechanisms in a marine diatom to cope with mercury toxicity. Development of a new bioassay involving the presence of phytochelatins in microalgae as a response to metal bioavailability.
