2. Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow. [10] I have an uncle who writes books for children. I didn't see my

uncle very often when I was a child because he lived in Africa, but he came to see us sometimes. When he did visit us, he usually told me one of his stories. I loved them all but 'Ben's wishes' was my favourite. My uncle told it to me one winter when it was very cold outside. I was about ten, I think.

A boy called Ben had two older brothers. The older boys often felt hungry and often got angry because they were so poor.

'Go and work in the fields!' they said to Ben each morning. "Dig up some vegetables! Make us some soup for dinner!"

Ben always answered in the same way. 'But, I want to go to school and learn all about the world!' The brothers just laughed and said, 'Don't be silly! You aren't clever enough to go to school like us.' A. Write T for True and F for the False statements below. [5] i) Ben had two younger brothers.

3. Read the passage below and do the activities that follow.

Lara is my mother's best friend. She's a vet, that's a doctor who looks after sick animals. I want to be a vet too. One day I asked her, 'Why did you decide to be a Vet, Lara?

'It's a strange story,' she answered. 'When I was your age, I had no brothers or sisters to play with, so in the winter holidays I stayed with my three cousins who lived high up in the mountains. They were tall and strong and couldn't ski or climb. My legs weren't strong enough! I was often ill too, so I had to carry different medicines with me all the time.

5. Read the passage below and do the activities that follow. [10] When he was half-way, strong winds started blowing. The sun was

shining and the snow was sparkling, when all of a sudden everything grew dark. The snow began to fall so fast that even the front pair of remainder was hidden from view. The remainder began getting stuck in the snow and came to a stop.

The postman untied them, stood the sledge upside down and tied his long stick to it. He also tied the girl's tie to the tip of the stick. Then he dug a hole near the sledge and, put the postbag in it. He made the reindeer lie down and he sat down with the little girl close against them. They were soon covered with snow. But the post man dug an igloo-like cave under the snow where it was quiet and warm.

The people in the village, where the postman was expected, saw that a storm was blowing and that he had not arrived. They telephoned to find out if he had left. Then they realized he had been caught in the storm and waited for it to stop.
