Placement Test for BIO 123 and BIO 161

Students who want to enroll in BIO 123 or BIO 161 and do not have the prerequisite algebra course (MTH 102 or MTH 108) MUST take the CLC College Math Placement Test. The test is given in the Testing Center at the Grayslake Campus, (847) 543-2076, the Lakeshore Campus, (847) 543-2120, and by appointment at the Southlake Campus,

(847) 543-6501. Please call the appropriate location for testing times. The use of a calculator is permitted, and one will be provided. Photo ID is required.

Which beginning biology lab course is right for you?

BIO 120 - intended as a general education lab science requirement for non-science majors and for those who are interested in the relationships between humans and the environment and environmental problems.

BIO 123 - intended as a general education lab science

requirement for non-science majors needing a one-semester lab science course and for students seeking careers in nursing, dental hygiene, medical imaging, etc. Prior

chemistry is helpful. Basic Algebra is a prerequisite. BIO 141 - intended as a general education lab science

requirement for non-science majors needing a one-semester lab science course and is not intended for students wishing to enter an allied health or pre-professional field.

BIO 161 - This course is the first semester of a two semester sequence intended for biology majors and students seeking careers in pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-veterinarian, etc. NOTE: Knowledge of chemistry is helpful. Intermediate Algebra is a prerequisite.

FIELD STUDY TRIPThe American Tropics: Costa Rica

Students will study the wide array of flora and fauna produced by Costa Rica’s amazingly diverse topography. Areas to be visited include tropical dry forest, tropical rain forest, cloud forest, seashore, savanna, and active volcanoes. Travel within Costa Rica will be by small bus; some hiking is required. Accommodations will vary from modest to rustic.

FIELD STUDY TRIP Mt. Rogers and the Appalachian Trail

Earn seven hours of credit when you sign up for BIO 128, ENG 224, and PED 229, which will be taught on location in the beautiful Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area, located in the mountainous, western tip of Virginia. These classes will involve day hiking along the Appalachian Trail and returning to our campsite each night.

Two pre-trip classroom meetings (May 8 and May 15) and two post-trip classroom meetings (June 12 and 19) will be scheduled. Students are required to take all 3 classes associated with the field course (ENG 224, BIO 128, and PED 229). The cost for all three classes is $460 plus tuition, fees, and personal food costs.
