Job Title: Centres Commercial Manager Salary Grade:

Responsible for: Centre staff located at four sites: Aberdyfi, Beddgelert, Betws y Coed & Dolgellau and the Distributor located at Headquarters
Contract duration: Fixed period until March 31st, 2017 1. PURPOSE OF THE POST
1.1 The Snowdonia National Park Authority currently manages four Tourist Information Centres, located in Aberdyfi, Beddgelert, Betws y Coed and Dolgellau.
1.2 The four Centres currently provide an information service to visitors and local residents about the Snowdonia National Park area, house exhibitions and provide a retail offer.
1.3 Following a recent review of the Centres, the Snowdonia National Park Authority is seeking to appoint a Commercial Manager for the Centres, who will deliver an engaging learning and discovery experience, including
developing a sustainable retail offer and supporting exhibition offer, promoting understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of the National Park area. Activity will focus on:
• Fit with National Park values and the Authority’s strategic plans,
including improving communication, broadening educational
opportunities and addressing the health and wellbeing agenda.
• Customer experience.
• Supporting formal and informal learning opportunities. • Showcasing local products and producers.
• Coordination with the Y Stablau retail units. • Social media.
• Health and safety management.
• Developing volunteer opportunities in activities. • Evaluation of the visitor experience.
1.4 This post is available for a fixed period until March 31st, 2017.
1.5 The post is part of the Snowdonia National Park Authority Education and Communications Service, which provides advice and information to the public in order to:
• Promote safe and responsible use and enjoyment of the Snowdonia National Park.
• Enhance public awareness and appreciation of the special qualities of the Park.
• Gain support for the work of the National Park Authority.
2. KEY OUTCOME SOUGHT
Continued development of the Centres as destinations for discovery and compelling engagement, also increasing commercial activities and generating income.
3. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 3.1 Income Generation
3.1.1 To effectively and creatively display retail products and marketing materials, changing displays regularly and seasonally.
3.1.2 To explore and implement opportunities available to increase income
generation through the Distribution service currently provided by the National Park Authority.
3.1.3 To explore and implement new opportunities for income generation at all four Centres, including expanding retail offer, activity booking services and other commercial activities.
3.1.4 To research opportunities for grant aid and sponsorship to support activities at the Centres, preparing grant and sponsorship applications to submit to
funding organisations and partners, including but not exclusive to, Visit Wales, the Arts Council of Wales, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Literature Wales and private businesses.
3.2 Engaging Audiences
3.2.1 To increase visitor numbers and income across the Centres.
3.2.2 To participate in events and other activities on behalf of the Snowdonia National Park Authority, including local events, shows and exhibitions. 3.2.3 To actively promote Snowdonia National Park and any initiatives adopted by
the National Park Authority and any other authorised organisations.
3.2.4 To promote amenities, facilities and services at the Centres on a local and regional scale, utilising local and regional networks, in collaboration with the Media and Events Officer wherever appropriate. These networks may include social media, local papers, tourism associations, chambers of trade and Visit Wales services.
3.2.5 To conduct regular evaluation of the visitor experience based on agreed key performance indicators.
3.3 Staff and Site Management
3.3.2 To line manage Centre staff and the Distributor throughout their term of employment, including checking of timesheets.
3.3.3 To organise appropriate training for Centre staff. 3.3.4 To provide staff cover at Centres, when required.
3.3.5 To undertake annual staff appraisals of Centre staff and the Distributor.
3.3.6 To attend Education and Communication team meetings on behalf of Centre staff, updating staff following meetings.
3.3.7 To regularly visit Centres to ensure that standards of customer care, display, neatness and health and safety (including fire safety), as specified by the Snowdonia National Park Authority and Visit Wales are reached.
3.3.8 To assist in master planning fit-outs, interpretation and exhibitions at the Centres.
3.4 General
3.4.1 To ensure that the principles of excellent customer care are applied to all elements of service delivery within the role.
3.4.2 To have due regard for the health and safety of self and others.
3.4.3 To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
4. CONTEXT
4.1 The Centres Commercial Manager is responsible to the Head of Education
and Communication and is part of the Education and Communication Service. 4.2 The Centres Commercial Manager is responsible for Centre staff and the
distribution service.

6. PERSONAL DETAILS
Essential Desirable
Qualifications and Experience
Experience of managing a visitor centre, retail outlet or similar, with a good track record of business and staff management.
Experience of leading a team.
At least 5 GCSEs, including
Mathematics, English Language and Welsh Language.
A degree in a relevant subject. Experience of dealing with stock
control, retail systems and delivery / dispatch systems.
Experience of working with organisational partners. Experience of marketing and
promotion.
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written
communication skills, in both English and Welsh.
Understanding and appreciation of the purposes of National Parks and ability to identify opportunities and potential to develop new projects, audiences and income streams. Knowledge of Health and Safety
relevant to a visitor/public
environment, with experience of compiling risk assessments.
Computer literate and competent with Microsoft Outlook and Office software, researching online and developing social media presence.
Personal
Valid driving licence and use of a vehicle.
Pro-active and self motivated. Committed and enthusiastic. The ability to work under time and financial pressures.
A highly self-motivated and
enthusiastic person, who is able to encourage and motivate others. Sufficient flexibility, innovation and enthusiasm to undertake all aspects of the post, including regular evening and weekend work at Centres,
meetings and events.
Excellent organisational, time
management and planning skills and the ability to work creatively and flexibly under own initiative and as part of a team.
