otal Metals was established in 1998 as a sheet metal com-pany, and from the beginning has been a Berridge Lic-ensee. As the company name indicates, Total Metals is totally dedicated to the fabrication and installation of metal clad-ding products for the construction industry. The scope of work performed by Total Metals includes standing seam metal roofing, wall panels, soffiting, fascia, coping cap, leaders, downspout, gutter and specialty custom sheet metal items. The company has established a reputation for its excellent craftsmanship of spe-cialty items such as copper domes at a casino near Tucson, as well as aluminum composite panels and components fabricated from zinc, copper, aluminum and stainless steel.Over the past four years, Total Metals’ sales have more than doubled, largely through the sale of Berridge standing seam and other metal panels. Today, Total Metals has fifty employees and occupies a twenty-five thousand square foot facility equipped with complete sheet metal fabricating machinery. The average job size fabricated and installed by Total Metals has more than quadrupled over the past five years.
David Brackney, Total Metals President, credits the company’s strong reputation for excellent customer service and quality for the growth in sales: “90% of our business is from repeat custom-Total Metals, the Berridge Licensee featured in this
issue of BYLINE, typifies the new generation of specialized contractors who excel in their field and offer exceptional value and craftsmanship. As their name implies, they only work in metal and their work exemplifies the best performance and aes-thetic properties of today’s prefinished metal ma-terials. As the the products pictured in this BY-LINE dramatically illustrate, Total Metal has set a very high standard in the eight years they’ve been in business.
Durrant Architects, featured in the “Architect’s View” section, have been in business since 1933 and now have twelve branch offices and more than 330 employees nationwide. The Copper Basin YMCA project featured in this issue typifies the profes-sionalism Durrant brings to Community Planning and design work.

Both David Brackney and Byron Capp, Vice President of Sales & Marketing credit the unique Berridge site-forming program with their high level of customer satisfaction; “Whenever possible we get the customer’s color selection early so we can order our Berridge coil ma-terial and have it on hand. That way, when the roof is ready for panels, we’re ready!”

urrant’s Phoenix, Arizona, office has been serving Arizona and the Southwest since 1980. The firm’s main market sectors are criminal justice, commercial, education, govern-mental, health care and industrial. These areas of specialty set the stage for the types of projects now served by the Durrant-Phoenix office and its pro-fessional staff providing architectural and engineer-ing services. The Copper Basin YMCA project typifies the com-munity planning design approach offered to its cli-ents by Durrant; “...it was to be the anchor for the surrounding Copper Basin residential community.” noted Evan Sockalosky who, with Mike Hudson headed the design team on the project. As shown in the “Main Street” rendering in the photo above, the YMCA is located on the Copper Basin main thor-oughfare, adjacent to the elementary school.
Typi-cal YMCA amenities such as the pool, Fitness Fa-cility, Aerobics Center and DayCare/Childcare fa-cility make it a natural community gathering place for Copper Basin residents.
In their decision to use Berridge metal panels, Evan Sockalosky says “We used the Berridge cor-rugated S-Deck and Cee-Lock Standing Seam Roof in unfinished natural Galvalume because we wanted to tie back to the agricultural and rural en-vironment of the surrounding area.” As the pho-tos on the facing page show, the final result is both functional and aesthetic.
