Jorge posts eighth win, Miracle take game two, 5-3

Miracle starter Felix Jorge continued his season of dominance with a 12th

quality start in 13 outings this season to help Fort Myers to a 5-3 victory in the

second game of a series of three with Palm Beach. Jorge went 6.1 innings

and totaled a season-high 10 strikeouts with two runs allowed. Felix scattered

eight hits with one walk and retired 10 in a row in the middle portion of the

game. The offense supported Jorge by building a five-run lead. Trey Vavra

got the bats going in the first with an RBI double. The Miracle plated two runs

with the bases loaded in the fifth on RBI hits from Niko Goodrum and Edgar

Corcino. In the sixth, Brian Navarreto registered a sacrifice fly and T.J. White

added an RBI triple. Andrew Sohn accounted for two Palm Beach runs in the

seventh with a single that knocked in a pair and Allen Staton added a two-out

RBI hit in the eighth. The Cardinals threatened in the ninth by putting the ty

-ing runs in scor-ing position, but Todd Van Steensel locked down the win with

his fifth save of the season.

T.J. getting white hot at the plate in return to Fort Myers

A week into the season, T.J. White was promoted to Chattanooga (AA) due

to a middle infield injury. In 34 games in the Southern League, White hit just

.145 and drove in nine runs. At the beginning of June, White was transferred

back to Fort Myers. After starting off just 4-for-27 in his return to the Miracle,

White has begun to blister the baseball. With 16 hits in his last 45 at-bats,

White is hitting .356 in his last 11 games including two home runs and a third

that will be added when the Miracle complete a suspended game on July 7.

T.J. has multiple hits in six of the last 11 and has slotted into manager Jeff

Smith’s lead-off spot in the order.

Corcino stoking the fire, tapping into hot streak

An All-Star and Fort Myers’ most consistent performer in 2016, Edgar Corcino

has put together a season of mini-slumps followed by prolonged stretches

of success. After a 2-for-26 skid from June 5 to June 15, Corcino has ignited

the hot streak again. Edgar has picked up hits in eight of the last 10 games; a

home run not included from a suspended game on June 26. Since June 16,

Corcino is 14-for-40 (.350) with six runs scored, five extra-base hits and four

RBI. Edgar’s season on-base percentage of .347 is tops on the club for play

-ers that have appeared in over 50 games.

Theofanopoulos provides left-handed option from pen

Since Luke Westphal was promoted to Chattanooga (AA) on April 26, manag

-er Jeff Smith had not been able to call on a southpaw in the Miracle bullpen

until the arrival of Michael Theofanopoulos from Cedar Rapids (A) on June

20. In three appearances, Theofanopoulos has not allowed a hit and has

combined to work 2.1 scoreless frames in relief. With the Kernels in the Mid

-west League, Theofanopoulos had surrendered just 18 hits and six earned

runs with 45 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 32.1 innings. In 21 appearances,

the Midwest League hit just .153 against Theofanopoulos and Michael posted

a 1.67 ERA.
