SPRING CONCERT – HUGE SUCCESS – GREAT ART WORK DISPLAY The Spring Concert was a great success. The St. Paul School Band was powerful and grand. The pieces selected by Mr. Szcygiel were very chal-lenging and the band students “nailed” each song. The vocal part of the concert was enhanced by student –generated music and wonderful student jokes. The music selections by Mrs. Koscinski were perfect. The theme of The Cyclone Café was very fun. The students sang their hearts out. Every-thing from “Five Fat Peas” to “Yellow Butter” to “Oodles of Noodles” to “Simple Song of Peace” to “Food Glorious Food” was inspiring and lovable. The talent was amazing. Both teachers taught us much about the music. It was very educational. This is just another example of what this school has to offer. Special congratulations to the WSMA Medalists and to the Contorno Scholarship winners. Thank you to Jan Arpin, our great art teacher, for hav-ing an Art Show displayhav-ing the beautiful student art work. Please see more pictures posted in the school newsletter.

JOHN TILCH ANSWERS THE CALL

Thank you to John Tilch who answered our call for help in the lunchroom and playground for St. Paul School. John was very reliable and helpful as he watched our children and kept them safe day after day. The kids relied on Mr. Tilch and enjoyed his presence and supervision very much. We greatly ap-preciated John’s stewardship for our parish. We hope John will return next year and would welcome any other retired or non-retired persons that could help us at St. Paul School. Give us a call at 968-3175. Be a hero like John Tilch!

MEMORARE PRAYER CAMPAIGN

Our Memorare Prayer Campaign continues. The students of Saint Paul School have memorized this beautiful prayer to Mary as they say it at lunchtime and the teachers have added it to their Faculty Pray-er time. Mr. Shanahan tells the students that now that they have memorized the Memorare they can pray it anytime they need our Mother Mary’s help while preparing or taking tests, or for sporting events, or for music competitions, or for family, or for anything in their lives. Keep track on your form.

Scholarship

Presentation subject: If I could choose any AKC pure-bred breed of dog,

I would choose _____________. And why?

Award for the top two presentations: The Waukesha Kennel Club (WKC) is offering

two $500 college scholarships to two Waukesha County 7

th

grade middle school

Students. The scholarships will be granted based on a presentation prepared by

the student on the student’s favorite American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized

breed.

The scholarships awarded are to be used towards tuition when the student enters the

college of their choice - or other dog related field of study preapproved by the WKC.

Presentation requirements: The student may be creative in the form their

presentation takes. Some possibilities are a written essay, PowerPoint presentation,

video recorded speech,

poem, etc. It should express their knowledge of the pure

bred dog selected and explain why they have chosen this breed and/or why it is their

favorite. The breed selected for the presentation must be a breed recognized for

registration by the AKC - no hybrids will be allowed. Failure to follow this guideline

will result in the disqualification of the project. The presentation may, or may not,

include a brief breed history or personal story, in regards to the student’s experience

with the breed.

The WKC suggests that the school offer this project as a part of the 7

th

grade

curriculum. The presentation should then be graded by the teacher who will submit

the top 2 qualifying presentations to the WKC. The WKC will review all of the

submissions from the Waukesha County middle schools participating in the project and

choose the top 10 presentations. These 10 presentations will then be posted to the

WKC website and Facebook page for viewing and voting on by the general public.

The scholarships will be awarded based on 49% of the general public votes and 51% of

WKC votes, WKC being the deciding factor. Ballot stuffing, i.e. individuals casting

multiple votes is not allowed and may cause a student to be disqualified.

In addition to the $500 college scholarships, the

grand prize

winner will also will be

eligible for

$500

towards a trip to the Eukanuba Dog show In Orlando Florida in

(11)

a trip to the Eukanuba dog show in December for their role in aiding, facilitating, and

submitting the winning student’s presentation.

Four tickets to the Eukanuba dog show will also be provided to the teacher and

student winning team (funded by WKC and/or private donors). Two tickets are for the

student so they can bring a parent, legal guardian, or chaperone, and two are for the

teacher and his or her guest.

Expenses: All other student expenses are the responsibility of the student’s family.

There may be an exception if additional funding or sponsors become available through

the WKC. The teacher is not responsible for transportation costs or arrangements for

the student, but will be responsible for their own expenses. Once the airfare, bus, or

train tickets have been purchased and presented to WKC a check for the $500 will be

released to the winning parties.

The WKC may have publicity and photo arrangements set up at Eukanuba. If the

winning student accepts the travel money and fails to attend the show and participate

he or she may forfeit the scholarship and will have to return the travel money. If the

first place winner is unable, or uninterested in attending the Eukanuba dog show in

Florida, the option will be given to the second place winner with all other

requirements still in effect for that student.

The WKC asks each team (teacher and student) to attend the WKC All-breed dog show

at the Waukesha Expo Center the last weekend in July to help in awarding prizes for

at least one day of show, and take part in various photo opportunities.

The scholarship portion of the award will be held by the WKC until such time as the

student(s) enrolls into a college program at an accredited college of the student’s

choosing, or other WKC approved dog related field of study. When these criteria have

been met the WKC will pay the scholarship amount to the college or school directly.

At the time of submission the student and the student’s parent will release the rights

to their project to Waukesha Kennel Club to publish it on both our website and

Facebook page for voting purposes. In addition, the winning students, along with the

student’s parent and teacher, will be required sign a release for various photo

opportunities and television interviews, if requested.

Entry Deadline: October 10, 2016

Winners will be notified the 2nd week in of November.

The Eukanuba dog show is usually held in mid December.
