Spring is getting closer, hopefully!

Friday and Saturday lunches are doing well, thanks to all the volunteers.

We will have some repairs coming up in the spring, such as eaves and soffits, boiler replacement and a bit of plumbing in the pantry. Waiting for the weather to break for eaves and waiting for quotes for the boiler.

A job well done to the volunteers and executives.

Bill Walton

Treasurer

In our general account we have $ 70,932. Short-term investments

and T-Bills we have $35,057. For the month of JANUARY, we are showing a profit of $10,834.00

Our financial year end is not back to date because we needed the end of January results to have the auditors allocate the deferred dues to the appropriate position on the General Ledger. As always, we owe our volunteers a big thank you for all their efforts.

Thank you

Financial statements are posted in the gangway.

Vacant Position.

Directors

We are still looking for a House Chairperson. Please let one of the Directors know if you are interested. Be an active member. We are always looking for new and creative ways to keep our Club successful. Our Entertainment Chairperson George and Sports Chairperson Richard have been doing a great job organizing events for the Club. Come on out and have some fun with these events. As you may have noticed the Oven Mitt Horseshoes was cancelled due to a poor signup. Our Publicity Chairperson Sandra does a great job keeping all our Members informed of upcoming events. You can find out all the clubs’ events on our website, in our Port and Starboard, and Facebook. I want to also thank everyone else on the Executive for volunteering their time for our Club. I want to thank all our volunteers who are not on the Executive. You are what makes our Club stand out.

Thanks

At the general meeting on January 29th we took up a collection, at the suggestion of Dave Doyle, for the Canadian Mental Health Association - Oxford County and raised $164.25. Thank you to those members at that meeting who generously reached in their pockets to donate. The generosity of our membership never ceases to amaze me! In addition to the collection amount, a motion was made and passed for the club to donate an additional $1,000 for the Oxford County Mental Health Association in honour of Veterans and January being National Mental Wellness Month.

This money will go directly to their Crisis Outreach programme which provides crisis services to those in need. For more information you can go to

https://cmhaoxford.on.ca/programs-services/crisis-services/ Below is taken directly from their webpage.

“The Crisis & Outreach Services of CMHA Oxford provides Crisis Intervention to individuals via telephone or in person. As well, we serve as a 24-hour-a-day back-up to all other direct service programs of CMHA, the Oxford ACT Team, the BSO Geriatric Outreach Team through Woodstock Hospital, and the Addiction Services of Thames Valley OTN Withdrawal Management Program.

The Crisis & Outreach team provides support to individuals experiencing distress as a result of any of the following:

· suicidal/homicidal thoughts or attempts · grief reactions

· distressing mental health symptoms · self-harm · abuse · substance abuse · relationship issues · housing issues · financial concerns · stress · employment issues · conflict with the law

He was getting old and paunchy And his hair was falling fast,

Telling stories of the past. Of a war that he had fought in And the deeds that he had done. In his exploits with his buddies; They were heroes, everyone. For when countries are in conflict,

Then we find the Sailor's part, Is to clean up all the troubles,

That the politicians start. If we cannot do him honor, While he's here to hear the praise, Then at least let's give him homage,

At the ending of his days. Perhaps just a simple headline,

July 2020/June 2021 Executive

ELECTIONS are coming up!

It’s time to start thinking about the Nominations

in May and

elections in June for the term July 2020 – June 2021!

Consider running for a position on the executive

Volunteering to be an executive member is one of the best ways to make a difference in your club. It also offers the opportunity to cross paths as well as, in many cases, quickly bond with people from the club. Volunteering as an executive member offers a way to have a real and lasting impact on your club.

three brothers age 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together.

One night the 96 year old draws a bath, puts his foot in and pauses. He yells down the stairs, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"

The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know, I'll come up and see." He starts up the stairs and pauses, then he yells, "Was I going up the stairs or coming down?"

The 92 year old was sitting at the kitchen table having coffee listening to his brothers. He shakes his head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful." He knocks on wood for good luck. He then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door."

An old couple has their friends over for dinner one evening, and after the meal the two men retire to the living room while the women remain chatting at the table.

The one guy says to his friend "Hey, we went to a really great restaurant last week and I think you'd really like it. They had good portions for low prices, and it was all really tasty!"

"Sounds great! I'll have to check it out. What's the place called?"

The first guy furrows his brow and thinks for a moment, struggling to remember. "Umm...what's the name of that flower...they're usually red or pink...you give them for valentine's...thorny stems?"

"A rose?"

"Yeah...that's it!" and shouts to the next room "Hey Rose! What's the name of that restaurant we went to?"

One night, Mrs. McMillen answers the door to see her husband’s friend Paddy

standing on the doorstep.

“Hello Paddy, but where is my husband? He went with you to the beer factory.” Paddy shook his head, “Ah Mrs. McMillen, There was terrible accident at the beer factory, Your husband fell into a vat of Guinness stout And drowned.”

Mrs. McMillen starts crying, “Oh don’t tell me That, did ha at least go quickly?”

Paddy shakes his head, “Not really ….he got out 3 times to pee!”
