Our Focus on Africa and the Middle

East

Research sources predict c.25% growth per annum in the

demand for Risk Management & Security Services in Africa and the Middle East over the next ten years. This constitutes triple the growth rates predicted globally.*

Demand in these Oil & Gas regions is attributed to growing economies, new business formation, foreign investment activity and the recent acceleration of terrorism and insurgency. Due to the complex (and often impenetrable) nature of certain countries and terrorist/insurgent groups, Risk Management and “Private Security Services are, for the most part, underdeveloped in these regions”.**

N49i’s team have been based in the region over a long period and we therefore offer our clients a unique, proven and ground-level advantage, plugging the gap for bespoke Risk Management and Intelligence services left by other providers.

N49i’s embedded, in-country network

spans:-•

East Africa including:- Somalia, Somaliland, Puntland, Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and the Sudan.

West Africa including:- Angola, Guinea,

Nigeria, Mali, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal, Liberia and Burkina Faso.

North Africa including:- Algeria, Morocco

and Libya.

Central Africa including:- Chad, Central

African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Middle East.

Country Profiling and New Market

Entry

N49i accesses an extensive, in-country network of closed source contacts with backgrounds in Intelligence, military, government and journalism. They have been embedded in the region over a long period of time and hold a specialisation on terrorist, insurgent and rebel activity which is unrivalled in East Africa and the Horn of Africa.

When allied with the screening capabilities of open source Intelligence, this helps us to build detailed, differentiated reports on new and emerging markets, particularly for commercial, humanitarian and charitable concerns looking to maintain or extend their operations. N49i’s country profiles and market entry reports include:-

• Full country and regional profiles with in-depth analysis of specific political, insurgent, terrorist, guerrilla, rebel, tribal, clan and military activities.

• Assessment of the geo-political, operational and security threat and risk mitigation.

• Recommendations on relevant logistics considerations e.g. office location.

• Government, institutional and security liaison.

• Additional open source software packages providing risk and threat analysis through visual-spatial layers:-

 e.g. terrorist, rebel and insurgent group profiles with additional related news flashes and geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) supplied up to 3 times per day, if required.

N49i offers detailed geo-political and operational risk assessments for client operations in Africa and the Middle East. We encourage our clients to be involved in this process from the outset.

By assessing current and past issues, client Intelligence, N49i’s in-country, closed source Intelligence and filtered, open source Intelligence, we are able to provide detailed and timely reports.

These factors are always collated taking into consideration the political and cultural context of the client’s immediate, surrounding environment. N49i tailors this Intelligence to the client’s brief and:-

Assesses the different categories of risk from terrorist, insurgency or other local factors.

Provides analysis and ranking of the client’s operations according to risk levels.

Prioritises & outlines the risk according to the gravity, probability of outcome and impact on operations.

Geopolitical and Operational Risk

Reporting

Due Diligence Enquiries

The growth of emerging markets in Africa and the Middle East is typified by poorly regulated economies, underdeveloped infrastructures and accelerated terrorist, insurgent and rebel activities. These aspects increase the threat of fraud and deception, for example where experienced fraudsters construct false identities, create ‘shell’ companies and use intermediaries to circumnavigate the usual checks. Using our embedded, closed source network and extensive Due Diligence experience, N49i is able to conduct thorough and discreet audits of individuals and companies. This helps clients mitigate the risks and take advantage of new business opportunities with greater security.

Anti Money Laundering (AML)

• Verification of an applicant’s particulars for private banking services.

• Profiles of high net worth individuals and companies.

• Audits of business interests, sources of income, net worth and criminal or terrorist activities.

Anti Terrorist Financing (ATF): To help ensure that legitimate organisations don’t inadvertently fund terrorism, N49i provides due diligence to help clients pick up potential terrorist financing:-

• Formally identifying individuals or entities that have connections with terrorism.

• Helping identify the point at which a client’s funds may be being diverted to terrorist financing.

• Tracking patterns of individuals, organisations and funds through cross-border transactions.

Commercial Risks of Engaging in Alliances and Contracts: To help uncover whether the potential organisation is engaged in suspect activities or has undisclosed liabilities, thereby assessing:-

Security risks:- threat to staff; risk to the company of fraud, theft and organised crime or terrorism.

Operational risks:- potential disruption to production, supply & distribution.
