Central Air Conditioner Rebate

Program Information & Application

Beginning January 1, 2009, installers must have provided Empire with evidence of load

calculation training and system charging and airflow training. This training must have occurred

on or after January 1, 2007. A list of approved contractors is provided below.

The Empire District Electric Company can help its Missouri electric customers, landlords, and

home builders afford a high efficiency central air conditioning or heat pump system through its

High Efficiency Residential Central Air Conditioning Rebate Program. Not only will you receive a

rebate, you will also enjoy the benefit of higher efficiency equipment which could mean reduced

electricity consumption and lower costs.

Why is Empire District making this offer?

Air conditioner efficiency is important because units with higher efficiencies assist in reducing

the peak demand placed on the electrical system during the summer months. Reduced peak

electric demand helps us to keep power cost down now and in the future.

How does this work?

Install a new system while this program is in effect and a rebate from Empire District will cover a

portion of the incremental cost of the higher efficiency equipment:

*SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) measures how efficiently a residential central cooling system (air conditioner or heat pump) will operate over an entire cooling season. A higher SEER reflects a more efficient cooling system.

What do I do to qualify for a rebate?



Complete the following application form.



An invoice from the installing contractor that includes the applicant’s name, the physical

address of the equipment installation, the manufacturer and model number of the

outdoor unit, indoor unit, and furnace.



Provide an AHRI Certificate of Product Ratings or manufacturer’s literature verifying the

SEER of the installed equipment, provided by the installing contractor.



Provide a copy of the Manual J (or industry equivalent) load calculation or a certification

from the installer or builder that such a calculation has been performed on this

residence.



If the installing contractor has not provided Empire with evidence of the required training,

he must do so before application can be processed.

Rebates are available on a "first-come, first-served" basis, as long as funds last, to Missouri

electric residential customers of The Empire District Electric Company, to owners of residential

rental property, and to builders of homes in Empire's Missouri electric service territory.
