CUIB SCHOLARSHIPS

CUIB offers a variety of Scholarship Schemes aimed at impacting on the lives of future Servant Leaders and their Communities. Eligibility Criteria and Renewal differ for each type of Scholarship. Below are the scholarships for the 2015/2016 Academic Year.

1. CHANCELLOR’S EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Chancellor of the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB), Mgr. Immanuel B. Bushu offers ten (10) tuition-based Scholarship Opportunities of Academic Excellence each year renewable on an annual basis (subject to maintaining good academic progress and conduct). This Scholarship is an initiative of the Chancellor to foster Academic Excellence of intelligent students who are academically challenged and disadvantaged backgrounds. In this Academic year, 2015/2016, the Scholarship will be awarded only to those who apply into the Catholic University Institute of Buea, School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Depending on their academic background candidates may be granted Full or Partial Scholarships covering Tuition only. This Scholarship has been awarded to host of Students in the recent years.

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

Candidates must be enrolled into the Catholic University Institute of Buea, School of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Must have a sound Academic and Moral Record from any Secondary School; GCE Advanced Level Result or an Equivalent.

Candidates must abide by the Code of Honour of the Catholic University Institute of Buea.

Candidate must not be an Ex-Convict.

Candidates from economically challenged and disadvantaged backgrounds may be given a priority.

HOW TO APPLY

Download the Chancellor’s Scholarship Application Form HERE after you must have applied for admission into the University.

Photocopy of your Academic Records Attached.

A Brief Essay explaining why you think you should be awarded the Scholarship (is part of the Application Form).

Complete and Submit the Application File to the Office of Admission not later than Monday 21st September 2015 by close of Business.

2. CUIB COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS SCHOLARSHIP (C2S2)

The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) launched the CUIB Community Stakeholders Scholarship (C2S2) during the 2014/2015 academic year. This Scholarship is meant for academically talented Students from economically challenged and disadvantaged backgrounds within the University Host Communities. The first phase of this Scheme started in the 2014/2015 Academic Year, with 12 scholarships offered to eligible candidates within 12 eligible Communities.

This is an initiative of the President’s Steering Committee. The President has handed the Development and Management of the Scheme to the Centre for Entrepreneurship Research and Innovation (CUIB-CERI) as part of the University’s Economy of Communion Philosophy and Community Engagement Initiative. The number of Students awarded this scholarship varies from year to year. This Academic Year, applications are opened to students from all the University Host Communities. However, candidates who come from Wokaka (Campus B) and Wokoko (Campus A) where the University runs its two Campuses will have priority.

COVERAGE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Scholarships will cover Tuition, Library Fee, Student Government Association Subscription, Identity Card, Health Fee, Official Wear, University Corporate T-Shirt, Technology Services, Student Handbook

and Calendar, Sports & University Games and Development Fee for the Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme which is hosted by the College of Business and Technology. The Scholarships will however NOT

cover accommodation and living expenses. The financial value of each Scholarship is Three Hundred and Ninety Thousand Francs CFA (390,000FCFA) per annum for two Academic Years renewable on an annual basis

(subject to good academic performance).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP

Candidates must be enrolled into the Catholic University Institute of Buea

Candidates must be a permanent underprivileged resident of either of the Communities: Buea, Wokaka, Upper Muea, Lower Muea, Molyko, Wokoko, Great Soppo, Small Soppo, Woteke, Wovilla, Sasse and

Bonjongo and any other nearby village selected by the University Authority. These Scholarships are for HND Programs run by the University and will last for two academic years.

Candidates must present a Recommendation Letter from the Community Councilors and endorsed by the Chief of the Village.

Be academically qualified to enroll in a specific HND program of the applicant’s choice.

NB: Villages without qualified candidates will lose their place to villages with the most qualified candidates.

HOW TO APPLY

Obtain a Community Stakeholders Scholarship Application Form from the Admission Secretariat or Download the Form HERE after you must have normally applied for admission into the University Normally.

Photocopy of your Academic Records Attached.

A brief essay on why you think you should be awarded the scholarship (Is part of the Application Form).

Attach a letter of Recommendation Letter from your Community Councilors endorsed by the Chief.

Fill and Submit the Application File to the office of Admission not later than Wednesday 23rd September 2015 close of Business.

The Community Councilors nominate three (3) candidates from each of the eligible communities. All nominations should be endorsed by the Chiefs. The Admission Office will then select ONE out of the THREE NOMINEES

from each Community.

This Scholarship has been awarded to a host of Students in recent years.

3. CUIBY TALENT SCHOLARSHIP

As an Entrepreneurial University that focuses on Talent Development CUIB Award Scholarships to students who demonstrate exceptional skill/talent in sports and socio-cultural activities for the Sustainable Development of their Communities. This scholarship was instituted in 2014 by President of CUIB Rev. Fr. George Nkeze to give opportunities to gifted students especially those who may not afford Higher Education for Economic reasons and to foster the Both/And Culture of CUIB which combines Talent and Academics, Faith and Reason, Hard work and Leisure. AREAS OF INTEREST

OBJECTIVE

The CUIBY Talent Scholarship has as its objective to enroll talented students with at least A’ level Certificate in 2 subjects in the Catholic University Institute of Buea. Applicants will be expected to go through a competitive selection process determined by the University with their peers.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR SCHOLARSHIP

Candidate must have applied into the CUIB Non-Degree and Certification Programmes, HND or College of Business and Technology.

Candidate must be holders of the Advanced level certificate in at least 2 subjects.

Candidate must abide by the Code of Honour of the Catholic University Institute of Buea.

Candidate must not be an ex-convict.

Be a transfer student with acceptance documentation from the University Admissions Office.

Be an incoming freshman with acceptance documentation from the University Admissions Office.

Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of selection and maintained throughout the Academic Year.

HOW TO APPLY

Visit the Office of Admissions at the Molyko campus A of CUIB and fill a Form for the scholarship. Applications for the scholarship close on the 19th September 2015.

Obtain the CUIBY Talent Scholarship Application Form, Fill and Submit forms on site at the Molyko campus or email the forms to us at admission.office@cuib-cameroon.net.

Pre-selected candidates will be called or emailed for an audition on campus on Wednesday the 23th September 2015. This audition will commence at 9am prompt.

The selected students from the auditions will be called or emailed to begin their admission process.

Candidates from economically challenged and disadvantaged background who exhibit exceptional skill will have priority.

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Start of Application: 9th August, 2015.

End of Application: 23rd September, 2015.

NUMBER OF AWARDS

The number of Students to be awarded the CUIBY Talent Scholarship varies from year to year.

DURATION OF AWARDS

The CUIBY Talent Scholarship is renewable each year.

FINANCIAL WORTH:

This will include “JUST” the Tuition Fee. Awardees will be expected to personally cater for other University

needs and charges.

SELECTION, APPROVAL & NOTIFICATION OF SELECTED CANDIDATES:

Selected Candidates will be given formal Notification of the Scholarship offer as soon as the Office of Admissions completes the selection of the candidate. Candidates will be notified through telephone calls or e-mails on or before the 25th of September 2015.

4. DIOCESE OF BUEA NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

CHILDREN SCHOLARSHIP

This Scholarship is an initiative OF the Catholic University Institute of Buea under the distinguished Piloting and Direction of the President, Rev. Fr. George Nkeze (Ed.D) to help Intelligent Children of Teachers in Catholic Nursery and Primary Schools in the Diocese of Buea. These grants are to pave the smooth transition of intelligent children of Teachers of the Catholic Nursery and Primary Schools in the Diocese of Buea. This Scholarship has as its aim to foster the University’s Mission of propagating Catholic Education at the Nursery, Primary and Secondary School Levels within the Diocese.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

 Candidates must be enrolled into the Catholic University Institute of Buea.

 Candidates must be a Son/Daughter of a teacher in one of Catholic Nursery and Primary Schools in the Diocese of Buea.

 Holders of a sound Academic Record from any Secondary School; GCE Advanced Level Result or an equivalent.

 Candidates must abide to the Statement of Integrity of the Catholic University Institute of Buea.

 Candidates must not be Ex-Convicts.

 This Scholarship is very competitive and will be granted to those who fulfill all the requirements including the final Interview process at CUIB.

Selected students of this Scholarship Scheme shall be enrolled into the College of Business and Technology for a period of three (3) years to study for a Bachelor of Technology Degree (B.Tech) in any of the Programmes. The Scholarship covers Tuition ONLY and is renewable on an annual basis (subject to Good Academic Progress).

HOW TO APPLY

Obtain an Application Form from the Admission Office of the Catholic University Institute of Buea.

Obtain the Scholarship Application Form also from the Admission Office.

Fill both Application Forms accordingly and submit to the Admission Office.

NB. All applications will be forwarded to the Catholic Education Secretariat for verification and confirmation of the eligibility of Candidates.

NOTIFICATION

Successful Candidates will be given formal Notification of the Scholarship offer as soon as the Office of Admissions completes the selection processes. Candidates will be notified through telephone calls or e-mails on or before September 25th 2015.

5. Sr. EMMANUELLA FOMENKY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

This Scholarship was established in 2014 by the Michael and Theresa Naughton Family in Minnesota, USA in Memory of Late Sr. Emmanuella Fomenky of the Sisters of St Therese of the Child Jesus in the Diocese of Buea. The Naughton’s Family knew Sr. Emmanuella during their first visit to CUIB in September 2012. Late Sr. Emmanuella who was the Pioneer Director of CUIB’s Centre for Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation (CERI), hosted the Naughton’s family at Christ the King College (CKC) Tiko as she was also the Principal of the College at that time. A friendship grew between Sr. Emmanuella and the Naughton’s family. Her death in January 2013 was a big loss to CUIB, her Family, friends and people of Goodwill who knew her. The Naughton’s family remember Sr. Emmanuella for her compassionate, caring and nurturing demeanor, always sensitive to the needs of others especially girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. In Memory of Sr. Emmanuella Fomenky, this Scholarship will provide financial assistance to students, particularly girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to immortalize the values of Late Sr. Emmanuella Fomenky. The Financial Assistance varies each year depending on our donors to this scholarship Award.

ELEGIBILITY

Students must be pursuing studies in CUIB

Students must maintain the minimum 3.0 GPA throughout the period of the Financial Assistance.

An Essay is required.

Renewable Financial Assistance.

Priority for financial assistance will be given to the Girl-child. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF SCHOLARSHIPS AWARD Candidates should be aware of the following general conditions:

CUIB reserves the right to publish the names of candidates nominated for the scholarship on the CUIB website. By applying for a scholarship, the candidate gives consent for such publication.

Candidates as well as Community Heads will be given formal Notification of the Scholarship offer as soon as CUIB completes the selection of the candidate from that community.

All Terms and Conditions of the Scholarship Award are subject to CUIB Rules and Regulations.

A Scholarship may be terminated at any time for reasons of unsatisfactory conduct or academic performance.
