Day 4: Salzburg

This morning you’ll walk to the railway station with your Tour Director to take the first of five day excursions into the Austrian countryside. You will have time to explore, shop and purchase lunch before the afternoon return to Vienna. You also have the option of forgoing an excursion and taking a day at leisure in Vienna if you wish.

On today’s excursion we are off on a Railjet train to picturesque Salzburg. A medieval castle that towers over the old city will greet us on arrival. This is the

Sound of Music city.

We’ll stroll through the gaily-decorated old town. You will be delighted with the narrow, winding streets. Here you will see many quaint shops as well as the building in which Mozart was born and composed his early works. You have free time to explore before our afternoon Railjet train returns us to Vienna. Entertainment and dining options will be available each night in Vienna. You will be able to participate in “on-your-own” evening activities which will be

coordinated by your Tour Director. Or strike out on your own depending on your interests. Options include dinner at a quaint wine cellar, a visit to the city’s casino to try your luck, or a local restaurant in the center of town. B

Day 5: Bratislava, Slovakia

Today you are headed to Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic aboard the Twin City Liner for a cruise on the Danube, Europe’s second longest river. Enjoy the picturesque Austrian countryside as we glide along at water level. Bratislava is where the movie

Amadeus was filmed. A local walking tour introduces you to the charm of this historic “old world” city. There is time for exploring before returning to Vienna aboard the Twin City Liner. B

Day 6: Baden bei Wien &

Grinzing

Join your Tour Director for an excursion to the charming resort community of Baden bei Wein (Baths by Vienna). You ride the interurban tram through the suburbs of Vienna to reach this interesting city where Beethoven once lived. There will be a short walking tour and time to browse before return to Vienna.

This afternoon visit the Prater Park. Here you will see the landmark Giant Ferris Wheel (Das Wiener Riesenrad), featured in the movie, The Third Man.

SALZBURG

When you have taken a ride on the Riesenrad you are really in Vienna. This evening the streetcar takes us to the Grinzing District for an included dinner and a taste of its noted new wine. B & D

Day 7: Graz

The city of Graz in southern Austria is featured on our Railjet train trip today. The Old-Town is the heart and soul of Graz. Encompassing the city mountain with its 13th century landmark clock tower, former fortifications, charming alleyways, medieval building facades as well as extraordinary modern architecture, it is a living museum with a modern twist. Visit the Styrian Armoury, which dates back to 1642. It is the only original armory left in Europe. You will return to Vienna on the afternoon Railjet train. B

Day 8: Innsbruck

Today’s Railjet train takes us west into Austrian Alps. Charming Innsbruck in Tyrol is our destination. Enjoy a walk around the city’s medieval district where buildings date back to the 15th Century. The famous Golden Roof three-story balcony overlooks the central plaza in Old Town. Just a short distance away is the bridge over the Inn River which gives the city its name. The Railjet Train brings us back in Vienna this evening. B

Day 9: Vienna a’ la carte

You have a final day for more wonderful experiences in Vienna, the city of

the waltz. Free time is available for museums or shopping. You may choose to join your Tour Director to explore the “old town” first district. Here you can stroll on the Karntner Strasse and Graben shopping streets and visit the centerpiece of the city, St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Take a break at a historic Viennese Coffee House where you will have an opportunity to sample the famous Viennese Sachertorte and other delicacies. This evening a special included dinner is featured.
