This statewide Substance Abuse Overview provides statistics on substance abuse treatment in

New Jersey for calendar year 2016. As of May 2017, there were 76,509 treatment admissions

and 74,291 discharges in 2016 reported to the New Jersey Department of Human Services,

Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services by substance abuse treatment providers.

These reports were submitted through the web-based New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring

System (NJSAMS). A new table for Substance Abuse Treatment Demand Estimate is included

in this report.
