Helping Our Neighbors in Need!
Our group helped Paula for many years as she cared for her adult son who was disabled and housebound. She cooked, cleaned ran interference with the outside world, looked after his dog who was his constant companion.
Always ready with a hug, always willing to chat, she was one of our favorites. About a year ago during a visit she told us she had to have heart surgery. Did I detect a slight fear when she talked? It would be only natural. We wished her well and promised to pray for her.
A couple months later, her name appeared on the list of those I was to call about Thanksgiving baskets and Christmas pre-sents. When she didn’t answer my first message, I called again. A young woman answered and asked why I wanted to contact her mother. She told me she had survived her surgery but died of a massive stroke soon after. She was sobbing so it was hard to understand her at first.
I felt a terrible sense of loss. She was one of ours, a wonderful mother, a caregiver, and was obviously very loved by her chil-dren. People like Paula are friends, we get to know them well over time. A member of our group had a mass said for her. As we approach the time we remember those among us who have died, please include Paula in your prayers. And please be generous with your food gifts and money to help all those like her who need a hand along their journey.
Your support is vital to our mission to serve those in need! Thank you so much! We have recently agreed to cover all of the rest of the territory that was previously assigned to the St. Bridget SVDP ---their SVDP conference no longer exists. This new area includes additional Sand Point Housing units and some student housing so we anticipate additional requests for assistance. If you are interested in joining SVDP please contact Tracy Read at [email protected] or 206-524-2058.
We always need pasta sauce, peanut butter and jam, tuna, mac and cheese, soups, chili, stews, breakfast cereals, and cleaning supplies as well as hygiene items. Thank you. Your kind support is making a huge difference to our neighbors in need!

SCHOOL NEWS
Across Assumption Parish’s shining-new gymnasium floor, students run and jump in tennis shoes that won’t leave black streaks across the still-curing surface; at the floor’s center, a painted bulldog grins, clearly pleased by the final product, too. Students’ obvious delight in being present and active in this place—expressed through their joyous motion, their smiles and laughter—is also the direct result of the shared efforts of ASB and the As-sumption and St. Bridget parish communities to make such moments possible, as well as ensure that countless athletic and community-building events and opportunities will take place here for years to come.
During a dedication of the gymnasium floor on the first day of school, Father Haydock of St. Bridget Parish asked the Lord's blessing upon “all those who play here” and asked that they remain free from injury and have fun. More recently, at a school-wide All Saints Mass, the gymnasium was filled with people of all ages, and Fr. Oliver led the community in worship and thanksgiving to God.
To see this gymnasium in action is to also experience, firsthand, the generosity and vision that The Fund-A-Need campaign responds to each year, with ASB and Parish com-munities stepping up to raise over $180,000 to fund this state-of-the-art floor. This follows the 2014 Fund-A-Need cam-paign, which raised critical funding to replace the aging gym-nasium roof and a HVAC system. Not only have these im-provements modernized the appearance of our school as a whole, but they provide students and their families, staff, and others in our community with a large, safe place for so many special needs and events that take place each year, from school Masses and the Assumption Parish fish-fry to CYO games and tournaments, school assemblies and performances, curriculum nights, alumni and school parties, Halloween Car-nival, extended care and Camp ASB.
Each year, in consultation with our Development Committee, ASB prayerfully selects a critical project within our school to be the recipient of its “Fund-A-Need” campaign. Thanks to the generosity of all those who supported last year’s Fund-A-Need during the 2015 auction, this dream of improving a well -loved educational and community space has become a reali-ty. Please join us in the bleachers or through your presence at other events scheduled throughout the year as we celebrate and put to good use this new and gleaming addition to the community!
