COURSE PREREQUISITES: ACT score of 27; SAT score of 610; Accuplacer EA score of 80 and CLM score of 84; or MATH 126 with a "C" or better. The prerequisite for this course is college algebra (Math 126) or equivalent knowledge. Credit will not be received for MATH 176 if credit has already been awarded for MATH 181 or higher.
This course satisfies the university core mathematics requirement, and meets the Core Objective CO2. Quantitative Reasoning.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CORE OBJECTIVE CO2: Students will be able to apply quantitative reasoning and mathematical analysis methodologies to understand and solve problems.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to use and apply the concepts and terminology of rate of change through applications and examples, compute the derivative of a function using rules of differentiation, and compute basic integrals using the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.

CALCULATOR POLICY: You will need a scientific calculator for exams. You can get one for under $10. A common choice is the TI-‐30X II S. However, you might want to graph functions when doing your homework. I suggest the following free online graphing utility by Runiter Company. Use the 2D mode. You can access it at
http://calculator.runiter.com/graphing-‐calculator/ . No graphing calculators, PDA’s, phones etc. are allowed on exams.
RECITATION SESSIONS: All recitation sessions are on Fridays. You can only attend the recitation time that you registered for. In recitation you will meet with my TA, ( Manoj Popuri ). Check your schedule to see which recitation section you are enrolled in.
SI SESSIONS: Supplemental Instruction will be given by Nathan Ginn. The hours will be announced and listed shortly on Webassign. Nathan will answer questions, go over homework problems, and give you any general help you need. I will give you extra credit for attending SI sessions. You will need to put your name on a piece of paper and have it stamped at each SI session you attend. You will then turn that paper in with your exam. After each exam you will need to start a new sheet of paper to have stamped. The extra credit will be applied to each exam it is turned in to.
HOMEWORK: (15 % of your grade): Homework has already been assigned online, with due dates. All homework assignments must be completed online. Please note that the start date and due dates are posted in WebAssign. You have 3 tries for each question. If you are looking to get a good grade in this class, you must stay up with your homework by starting early in the week and not on the due days. I will be dropping 3-‐5 of your lowest homework sets.
QUIZZES: (20 % of your grade): In addition to weekly online quizzes (30 minutes) that are posted on WebAssign you will also have weekly quizzes in your own Friday’s recitation time. I will drop 5 of your lowest quizzes, No make up quizzes are allowed.
TESTS: (45% i.e. 15% each): There will be three in class exams plus a comprehensive final exam on the last day in the lecture room. These will be given on the dates indicated on the class schedule. All tests will include multiple choice questions. You must bring a picture ID and a Scantron form 882-‐E for all of your exams.
Any student requiring accommodations through the DRC must schedule their exams on the same day as the in class exams.
FINAL EXAM: (20% of your grade): There will be a comprehensive final exam. The exam will include multiple choice questions and will require a Scantron form. It is scheduled for Wed. December 17th 12:30-‐2:30 P.M.
In our lecture hall (WRB #2030). You must bring a Scantron form 882-‐E and a photo ID.
EXAM MAKE – UP POLICY: Make-‐ups or early exams are not permitted. If you must miss an exam because of a valid documented emergency or an official university function that conflicts with an exam date, Then your final exam grade will be used to replace the missing exam (only once) .
