I love open tunings. They add moods to music that just don’t show up in regular tuning. Also som ethings are simply not playable in standard tuning that you can play in open tunings.

One caution, though, is that it is possible to get lazy with open tunings. Quite often because the tuning flavors the music to a degree, it’s easy to disregard the thinking out what you are playing.

All right, now let’s look at the tunings. There certainly are many more, these are the ones I tend to use.

Also you can capo these tunings, it is fairly common. Make sure that you retune after capoing . It tends to alter the pitch even if you are in tune before hand.

Composing in DADGAD is most easily done in, obviouslly, D A and G, but also C and F because the A, G and D and not sharped or flatted. While not impossible, composing in E or B would probably prove to be a bit too complicated or challenging to bother. So Iʼve included the major scale charts for those keys best suited for this tuning.
