Casted tapered Arm with one rounded end, 2 spring hole nubs and the spring connects directly to the arm.

STYLE B:

2L153E, 2L153F, 2L153G, 2L153H

Square bar stock Arm with eye bolt screwed into arm. The spring connects to the eye bolt.

STYLE C:

2L153E*, 2L153F*, 2L153N, 2L153P, 2L153L, 2L153M Looks exactly like Style B. The only difference: there are 2 pin holes in the shaft, viewed when the pipe plug is removed. If you have only 1 hole, you have Style B.

* For a brief time, some of the 2L153E & 2L153F were shipped with two pin holes. You may have also retrofitted your check valve recently to the two pin hole shaft.

Loosen the (4) volute ears. This will allow the pump to rotate slightly when the all-thread is added, making the check valve removal a snap.

4.

Make sure all bolts are loose and out of the way.

5.

Put both 3/8" nuts on the 3/ 8" all thread and rotate the two nuts from the end to the center.

6.

Washers may be required for larger pumps and piping.

7.

Insert the all-thread, nut, and washer assembly just under the check valve arm.

8.

Insure that there are no obstructions.

9.

Rotate the all-thread out until the pump begins to rotate.

DANGER: Disconnect and lock out power before servicing equipment. Failure

to do so could result in serious bodily injury or death.

Loosen check valve bolts and nuts.

This will allow for easy check valve removal.

11.

Inspect the check valve for damage.

12.

Remove the old gaskets.

13.

Install a new gasket with PERMATEX non-hardening silicone.

14.

Install 2 bolts and 2 nuts in the lowest holes. This will cradle the valve for easy installation.

16.

Install the check valve. Make sure the gasket is not damaged or slides out of position.

15.

Silicone the outside of both the gaskets with PERMATEX non-hardening silicone.

17.

Insert bolts and nuts and then tighten them.

20.

Open the plug valve. Restore power and check operation.

You have now successfully removed and replaced the Smith & Loveless check valve.

19.

Finally, tighten the volute ears.

18.

If all the bolts, noted in Step 17, do not align, use the all thread to rotate the pump slightly.

1/4” of metal — a 200% increase of metal seat area between hole and O-Ring Seat groove for an even more ffective and robust seal. Stainless steel shaft and brass clapper and arm — all built from noncorrosive materials. Larger diameter brass clapper

When should you repair a check valve versus replace it? S&L’s Customer Service Team notes most customers rebuild a check valve when the check valve is in need of: Pin, Shaft, O-Rings, Clapper & Arm.

When it comes to seat problems, learn the check valve’s age. If you have a newer one, most customers will change the seat through repair. If you have a check valve that’s 10+ years in age with seat problems, it’s time to replace the check valve.
